Bill and Kyle’s Excellent Adventure

Bill and Kyle are two ordinary guys interested in the extraordinary. As ‘Mandate33‘, they have set off in search of unusual places (inspired by Jim Brandon’s seminal book Weird America) and documented them in short YouTube videos.

Above you’ll find Bill and Kyle introducing themselves, as well as a couple of locations that they visited, while in the clip below they travel to Point Pleasant, home of the Mothman, on the 45th anniversary of the infamous Silver Bridge collapse. While there they interview Rush Finley, owner and proprietor of the historic Lowe Hotel, who was witness to the events of the infamous UFO flap and Mothman sightings in 1966/7…and also discover an unusual synchronicity regarding John Keel and the Silver Bridge tragedy.

Oh, and they also get far too up close and personal to the Mothman for my liking. Let’s just say the famous cryptid has a butt that just won’t quit…

  1. Mothman and the Silver Bridge Collaspe
At the time of the “mothman” I was the Science Editor of the Parkersburg Sentinel Company. The Sentinel was the daily evening newspaper for Parkersburg and wood county area. I was a part of the crew that was called in to locate submerged vehicles from the bridge collaspe. Many things were targeted as part of the “Mothman” saga of that period. A huge bird was accused of beating the roof of a car going almost 100 miles per hour, trying to get in. A strange golden globe was found that had everyone going nuts. And, of course, the famous Mothman. Well the golden globe turned out to be the shotput from a local highschool. The bird that was trying to get into a car going 100 miles per hour turned out to be simple hysteria and a loose portion of a convertible top. As for mothman, he was a part of a military exercise that went slightly off kelter. Special Ops was, at that time using West Virginia as a training ground for personal gliding warfare. West Virginia having rough terrain and sparse population at that time. A glider, code named, Black Ladies, came down where he shouldn’t have. He was spotted by a group of scared residents who figgered his glider wings were some sort of beast, his head seemingly partially hidden in those wings. The pilot of this glider was wearing the old style night vision goggles which appear as dark pink or reddish in the night. Well folks we got quite a ride from all of this hoopla and the Silver Bridge falling into the river was a coincidence. The bridge was old, several bad places in it were discovered after the fact and on that near Christmas day the bridge was totally full of bumper to bumper, Christmas shopping, traffic. It was just too much weight on that old span. There you have it. Whether or not you believe it is up to you. I suppose it is more fun to believe some strange bugeyed batman is prowling the woods in southern West Virginia.
