Khafre's pyramid

Were Khufu and Khafre’s Pyramids Built at the Same Time?

Discovery News is covering a new theory about the Giza plateau, put forward by Italian mathematics professor Giulio Magli, which suggests that Khufu planned and built two pyramids at Giza – the Great Pyramid, and the second pyramid commonly attributed to Khafre. According to Magli…

…astronomical alignments and the landscape indicate that the two main pyramids, those identified with the tombs of Khufu and Khafre, were not built in different stages. On the contrary, they were planned as a single, grand project.

“Khufu was the mind behind the project. He conceived both pyramids to have strong symbolic meaning. He wanted to state forever that his soul had joined the sun god,” Magli told Discovery News.

The study, which has been published on the Cornell University physics Web site arXiv, suggests that Khufu planned the construction of two pyramids, exactly as his father, Snefru, did in Dahshur. Only later did Khafre claim for himself the slightly smaller pyramid.

It’s interesting to note that Magli is a friend of ‘Orion Correlation’ theorist Robert Bauval. However, TDG admin Rick asked Robert about this news on Graham Hancock’s message board, and Bauval pointed out some problems that he sees with it.

  1. Akhet
I posted two pics at GH.com, one of the Akhet hieroglyph and the other of the sun setting between the pyramids of Khufu and Khafre.

Here’s the Akhet. And here’s the sunset.

As you can see, the Akhet has a curved bowl-like centre and has straight sides on either end. It looks nothing like the sun setting between two pyramids. It could easily be a reed boat with the winged sun above its centre.

But forget my armchair Egyptology, Rob’s the expert and makes excellent points that discount Magli’s theory. Although Rob accidentally wrote ‘Northeast’ corners, when he meant ‘Southeast’ corners. It must be hard remaining focused on your writing when you have a view of the Giza Pyramids from your balcony! What a hard life these bestselling authors lead, no wonder Greg’s publishing Darklore (Amazon US or UK). 😉

I took the liberty to fix your html coding.

But don’t thank me. Thank Kat. She’s the one who figured it out and taught me 😉

      1. Image use
        Hi guys,

Please note – it’s better to link to outside images, rather than embed them…otherwise we are using someone else’s bandwidth to illustrate our own page. Generally, it’s frowned upon.

        Kind regards,
        Greg

  2. This Story is actually old
This Story is actually old news in a way. I remember years ago (at least 5 if not 10) Comet Research Institute in Japan did a geometrical analysis of the Giza complex and found the entire thing (3 Major Pyramids plus the Sphinx and main causeway) to be so perfectly aligned geometically to one another that it denoted a single plan for the entire complex. I really don’t know why this information hasn’t yet come up in relation to this story.

that chafe the spirit and the mind repress,
when through the clouds gleam beckoning beyonds whose shining vistas mock man’s littleness?” (HP Lovecraft)
