Never assume

Quote of the Day:

It’s a bit embarrassing… to have been concerned with the human problem all one’s life and find at the end that one has no more to offer by way of advice than ‘Try to be a little kinder.’

  1. The conspiracy minded people I’ve known personally have fallen into two types.

The first type are people for whom the true randomness of the universe is anxiety inducing. They want to believe there are mysterious actors behind the disasters and miracles that befall us. It’s too scary to accept that the vast majority of events transpire merely because of dumb luck.

The second type tends to be somewhat distrustful by nature, not paranoid per se, but inclined to be a bit suspicious about anything that makes them uneasy.

As for people who invent conspiracy theories and then formally spread them, I’ve not known any. However, I suspect there’s something very ego-gratifying in seeing yourself as being “in the know” and taking on the mission of letting the rest of the world in on what’s really going on – even if “what’s really going on” exists only in that one imagination.

Of course, if you have a sponsored site and/or blog and/or You Tube channel, your dreamed-up conspiracy theory is a money maker. So I don’t think we should discount greed as a conspiracy theory motivator.
