We found this minion of Cthulhu on the beach on the weekend. R’lyeh is rising my friends, stay safe…

Thanks David.

Quote of the Day:

[T]he void left by the collapse of traditional religious cosmology cannot be filled by the marvellous narrative that science unfurls. Despite its truths and wonder, this narrative remains too allied to the view of things from without to easily bond with the atrophied but vital experience of things from within.

  1. The Empire (of Zahi) Strikes Back
At the bottom of the Smithsonian article about Tut, Salima Ikram (a familiar talking head on Nat Geo documentaries) mentions that Zahi Hawass is preparing a response to the recent “leaks” by his former investigative team.

“With regard to the Tutankhamun story, I would like to report, with great pleasure, that Dr. Zahi Hawass, together with Dr. Sahar Selim, is about to publish a book on his work on the royal mummies, including the CT-scans. This material will surely change our understanding of these mummies, in terms of their mummification technology, health, and life histories. This is a great boon to Egyptologists as well as other scientists and anyone interested in ancient Egyptian history. At the time of my interview, I did not know the details of this publication, and I am delighted that the academic community, and others, will now have access to this important data.”

  2. Tjipetir mystery
HA! YES! is what I just yelled out in my office real loud and unprofessionally at the site of this article. Why? because this has been a story floating around the beachcomber community for a while and I wondered when it would surface here (so many puns ._.) AND because it’s about damned time someone spoke to the beachcombing community about this. I have been saying for so many years, if you find something strange on the beach and need to know what it is, GO ASK THE LOCAL BEACHCOMBERS!!!! We find interesting things all the time and if you ask nicely we may show you.

Sometimes tiles like this were also used as ballast. I know terracotta tiles often wash up along the beaches I go to that are from French shipwrecks.

For example, if your wondering what ever happened to the Montauk Monster, rumor in the beachcombing community has it that it was picked up by a man who brought it home to preserve (the bones I guess) but it stunk so bad his wife made him throw it away. My guess is either that, or the city came and disposed of it because of the health risk to the public, since it’s a raccoon (even in a dead bloated body there is a risk of rabies).

The first rule of beachcombing: No it’s not aliens 😛

Sad to see how they threw away their lives. What they need more than everything they are getting is mental therapy. They must have a predisposition to “falling for” a fictional character (not something uncommon, so all of Deviantart can calm down), but through some other mental instability went to this extreme. I still look at this story and go Dafuq?! and did I miss something but WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PARENTS?!
