Quote of the Day:

Religion, mysticism and magic all spring from the same basic ‘feeling’ about the universe: a sudden feeling of meaning, which human beings sometimes ‘pick up’ accidentally, as your radio might pick up some unknown station. Poets feel that we are cut off from meaning by a thick, lead wall, and that sometimes for no reason we can understand the wall seems to vanish and we are suddenly overwhelmed with a sense of the infinite interestingness of things.

  1. Global Consciousness Project nonsense
I have great respect for Nelson Mandela, but not for linking his death with any “findings” from the Global Consciousness Project. This is absurd. Maybe their measurements correlate with the event of a fly coughing, which accidentally also occurred at that particular time. Their reasoning is worrisome at best.

Since flies cough regularly – that “example” makes little sense. Anyway . . . as they said:

It is important to keep in mind that we have only a tiny statistical effect, so that it is always hard to distinguish signal from noise. This means that every “success” might be largely driven by chance, and every “null” might include a real signal overwhelmed by noise. In the long run, a real effect can be identified only by patiently accumulating replications of similar analyses.

  2. who you gonna call…? someone else
Raccoons are also a largely responsible, I believe, for making bumps in the night that people aren’t aware of (and squirrels).

and the second guy in the top row of the “hunters” who got high (#1 insane way) and burned the plantation down…wow…if there was even a picture to show the kids in health class on why they shouldn’t do drugs, damn!

  3. bone church
    oddly beautiful.

When you run out of places to bury the dead, and then run out of wood because you’ve been burning plague ridden dead bodies…I guess you gotta use what you got 😛
