Samsara Trailer

Well this just looks jaw-droppingly good. From the makers of the amazing Baraka, a film about the myriad ways of being human on an amazing sphere of dirt and water: Samsara.

The film is out on August 24 in the US, and August 31 in the UK. Also, reactions from the film’s premiere in London recently:

Visually, one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen, but you kind of leave feeling a little bit shell-shocked and questioning your existence a little bit…

  1. Voyager
Film critic Roger Ebert said of Baraka, “If man sends another Voyager to the distant stars and it can carry only one film on board, that film might be Baraka.”

We can add Samsara to it now.

  2. Samsara/Baraka/Koyaanisqatsi
I attended the world premiere of Baraka back in 1993, at the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago–and I was impressed but not bowled over; it reminded me a bit too much of Koyaanisqatsi, I suppose. I’ve seen it several times since then, and I now think it’s some kind of masterpiece (and really should be seen on the big screen, btw). I didn’t think they could find enough unique new images to fill another film, since they covered so many of the best ones last time around–but it looks like they’ve pulled it off. Can’t wait. But if Baraka is any indication, make sure you see it in a theater, and not wait to see it on your home system (or iphone!!!). It’s like night and day.
