I’m gonna rise right out of the ground

Thanks Arlan and Dave. J.

  1. It was one helluva ride
Re: Endeavor’s reentry over the Yucatan

I am gonna spin the lead-in just a little so to make a few comments on the machine.

For three decades, we watched the space shuttle launch and land. And, we were always just a little underwhelmed because it was never designed to go any further than low Earth orbit. It wasn’t the space ship that would take us back to the moon or on to Mars.

The loss of Challenger and Columbia caused us to question both the mission and the machine… but in both unfortunate instances, neither was to blame. In the end, both were perhaps preventable and both were the fault of a space program operated on a shoestring budget and driven by an unforgiving clock.

With the United States now in what appears to be an irreversible remission of vision and courage, it is highly unlikely that anything even approaching this level of effort will again be seen launching from American soil… at least in our lifetimes.

So, I would just like to say farewell to the US manned space program… and the end of a long, proud history that began with a tiny capsule, a project called Mercury and a brave man named Alan B. Shepard.

    1. Ahem… excuse me?

      A: No[/quote]

I personally appreciate your declaration. But if I may be so bold, sir… can you back up your absolute statement with links, references or an opinion?

      Thanks 🙂
