Tool at Area 51

The Venn diagram of fans of the band Tool and lovers of extraterrestrial lore forms a fairly large vesica piscis (no insult via esoteric symbolism intended!), and I know a bunch of them hang out here to boot. So definitely wanted to give a heads-up to a little chat our good friend Blair MacKenzie Blake will be having on the ‘Children of Saturn’ internet radio show tonight, discussing his many forays to a certain ‘secret’ base in the Nevada desert (along with a drummer guy from some band):

10 years ago Danny and I (BMB) were invited by Art Bell to be the guests on his popular late night radio program “Coast To Coast AM.” Although (unfortunately) certain events in Art’s personal life (along with Tool’s busy schedule) prevented this from happening, on MONDAY, JANUARY 10th, we will be the guests on the “CHILDREN OF SATURN” internet radio show hosted by Rynne Stump (listen in at www.radio23.org/ccr – 6-8 PM, PST). Among the subjects we will talk about are our many forays to the perimeter (and on at least one occasion, beyond the perimeter!) of the ‘secret’ Groom Lake facility better known as AREA 51. Having personally made 51 trips* to the area between the late 1980s and 2010 (over 20 years!), I’ve certainly seen my fair share of strange things (and not just in the sky). As we most likely would have talked about on “Coast To Coast”, one of our experiences involved being the first civilians to be detained at gunpoint and fined for trespassing into the restricted zone (in a place where the signs warn in bold red print: “USE OF DEADLY FORCE AUTHORIZED”). This occurred in mid April 1995 – just one day after a controversial land grab closed off an additional 4,000 acres of BLM land, thus preventing public access to two ridges that offered an unobstructed view of the secret installation.

If time permits, I will also share some stories about trips to the alleged Roswell crash/retrieval site and a couple of ill-advised visits to the exceedingly ominous Archuleta Mesa in Dulce, New Mexico. All in all, it should be fun. We will also be playing some of the ‘spacey’ music that I used to blast out there under those incredibly starry skies (not just to set the mood, but, more importantly, to attack mysterious areoforms!), along with a couple of Area 51 inspired Tool songs.

Readers of Darklore will know that BMB, a regular contributor to our Fortean anthology series, knows his alien and esoteric lore back to front (or is that above and below?), and can spin a good yarn – see his books Ijynx and The Wickedest Books in the World for some BMB goodness – so the Children of Saturn show should be definitely worth a listen. Turn on, tune in and hopefully your internet connection doesn’t drop out!

Oh, and check it out…Tool rehearsals. T minus 14 days and counting till they rock Brisvegas!
