Saturnian Moons

Last weekend the Cassini probe flew by a number of Saturn’s moons, returning some great images that we linked to in our news briefs on Monday. Emily Lakdawalla has put together a wonderful post at the Planetary Society blog detailing what the images show, and also putting together this cool animation of the approach to Enceladus and its plumes of water ice erupting from geysers:

Love that vibe of standing on the bridge of your spacecraft as you swoop in towards this enigmatic Saturnian moon.

Plenty of other things in the blog post worth checking out, including the image of Tethys’ huge crater (that’s the ‘Death Star’ moon), and a spectacular animation of the crescent of Enceladus rising above the crescent of Saturn – so head on over there and take a peep.
