M.C. Escher DMT flashback anyone? No? How about a tour of the lost city of R’lyeh then?

Quote of the Day:

Trapped in the cold outside, there ain’t no shelter. They wanna force my hand…
Until I take what i wanted, and break all the lies, and defeat the f**kin’ liars.
Smash all the temples and crawl through the rubble, and cry to the fallen!

  1. active contact
Both the risks and benefits of active contact messages seem overstated. Given that we know next to nothing about the target audience, is seems unlikely that they would even realize it is a message for them.

  2. Contacting Aliens
Hmmmm… Debate over whether good idea to contact alien civilization? If they’re already here – moot. If not, then clearly it is not a good idea. Look at our own civilization. If we make great scientfic advancements over the next hundred years allowing for interstellar travel what would we do to the more primitive alien civilizations we encounter. Presumably if a western culture such as the US, Canada, or most EU countries were to find them, we would be helpful yet still manipulate them for our own benefit – as we do now all around the world extracting oil and resources while poisoning and destroying the indegenous tribes and their cultures, etc… Look at the fate of the native american indians across the U.S. – they were systemetically eradicated with the survivors relegated to reservations on the least valuable land.

If one of the more oppressive/fundamentalist cultures such as Islamic or Communist cutltures were to encouneter them – they’d likely impose their strict rules of conduct on them as they do here and if the aliens fail to comply, then simply kill them – same as here. And of course if a facist regime like so many here were to find the aliens – they’d do likewise.

It is clearly naive and idealistic to think other civilizations would evolve any differently or more peaceably than our own. Of course I hope they would, but in my experience and throughout history the scientists who are theorizing these things are wrong far more often then they are right – in fact they are almost always wrong and try to mitigate the damage from their mistakes after the fact.

Lastly the constant arguement that the great distance makes strip mining our planet uneconomical, and likewise unreasonable for aliens to have arrived here already is simply rediculous. It is based on our still primitive understanding of science and current technology – we have afterall only been a space age civilization for 40 to 50 years. That is nothing – we’re still barbarians with toys too powerful for our own good. Any civilization more advanced than our own by a mere hundred years or more could have developed technologies warping space, creating wormholes, traveling interdimensionally, or who knows as of yet what undsicovered or undreamt of techonology that would allow traversing space in a blink of an eye. And of course any civilizations even decades ahead of us could wipe us out without a second thought – just think of the U.S. Military fighting world war two with today’s technology versus the German’s and Japan’s technology of the 1940’s. It wouldn’t last more than a week, accept for the mop up… Silly scientists – so smart and yet so dumb…
