Meow.

Thanks Kat.

Quote of the Day:

As long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower living beings he will never know health or peace. For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other.

  1. GM corn: Monsanto & Mexico, siting on a tentacled tree…
Like I wrote on a personal message to Rick & Kat, I’m not against GM crops per se. Even Norman Borlaug, the man responsible for the so-called “green revolution”, was in favor of GM if it helped to boost production of crops and help feed the hungry masses.

Could it be bad for you if you ate it? Maybe; but I’m betting it couldn’t be worse than all the crap that’s already in the blood system of ALL of us. All the drugs and chemicals that abound in our water supply; all the bisphenol and other chemicals from plastics that act as hormones in our bodies —your 13-year-old brat turn into womanhood in a blink of an eye? it ain’t the chicken Daddy-o!— and a big etcetera.

We have 7 billion people living in the planet, folks. Either we feed them, or we kill them. Period. The killing can be either swiftly by wars, or slowly by doing nothing and watching them starve.

No, I’m not against accelerating the development of plant species thanks to genomic research. What I’m against of, is the idea of a transnational company who wants to charge royalties every time a poor farmer plants corn on his little patch of land, because the wind carried the pollen of the GM corn and it got mixed with the farmer’s plants.

I’m also deeply disappointed in the lack of interest of the Mexican government to preserve the indigenous species of corn found in Mexico. Mexico was the craddle of corn, for crying out loud!

When Borlaug was called by the Indian government to help them as he helped the people in Mexico, he didn’t give a damn about royalties or copyrights. He went there with samples of the seeds he developed in Mexico. The man was the Linus Torvald of agriculture.

But then again, I take a bittersweet comfort in the fact that Mexico is also the #1 pirate nation in the continent. So Monsanto: good luck with trying to uphold your royalties! Just ask Microsoft how well the pirate copies of Office are selling in the Mexican markets 😉

  2. Pyramid Mobile Home Estates?

“Bolivian pyramid may lose World Heritage listing due to dodgy renovations.”

Kind of reminds me of some trailers I have seen… that have this really tacky artificial brick facade stapled on as an afterthought, lol!
