Quote of the Day:

Pray that there’s intelligent life somewhere up in space…’cos there’s bugger-all down here on Earth

  1. UFO incident
‘RAF Lakenheath will not comment without having more detail over the alleged incident.’ – in case they accidentally comment about some other UFO incident, I suppose.

  2. Maya
Actually the modern Maya in Mexican hotels only rip your heart out if you don’t tip them enough.

Also this sort of thing has been proposed for floating airports. The US Navy has considered it, and cities like San Diego have too. But apparently they found this too expensive.

  3. Magdalenian Artifacts
This theory is a big load of tripe! There is nothing but the over-active imagination of its author(s) to substantiate that these flint pieces are stylized female figures. It is more likely that they are, as most knapped pieces of stone, simple tools.

If the owners were holed up for the winter as the article claims, they were probably keeping warm by a fire while scraping and preparing skins for use as clothing or other leather goods. The narrow tip would function as an awl or drill and the wide blade would be used to scrape sinew and hair from an animal skin.

“Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.”- Sigmund Freud, on dreams and symbolism.

    1. Re: Magdalenian Artifacts
I agree that the article’s theory is a load of tripe. 15,000 years ago Poland and this neolithic site were going through the ice age, and I’m sure the last thing on anyone’s mind was erotica. Survival and food was probably what people were fantasizing about.

The early European cultures were matriarchal…..the women held a far more important place in society than they do now….. These figurines were most likely goddess imagery – exaggerated female characteristics signify fertility, which would have been pretty important when the infant death rate was way up there, and life expectancy was limited to 25 years.

      1. Contradictory???
I am sorry MoonX but I do not follow. In your first paragraph you agree with me but say just the opposite in paragraph two. You still see these flint pieces as figurines that illustrate the female form. That is what the article claims.

Furthermore, you say infant death rate was high at 25 years. I think that if someone dies at age 25 they should not be considered an infant.

  4. invisible roses
About 5 years ago, I was treated to the fragrance of roses for one night. It seemed like my bedroom was filled with thousands of invisible old-fashioned roses. Oddly, even though the bedroom door was open, the exquisitely strong rose fragrance was confined to just that one room.

My eternal gratitude to the equally invisible someone who realized I desperately needed a boost that day.

    1. Satellite debris
What most people doesn`t know is that on-board that chilean plane that was almost hit by satellite debris was Pet Shop Boys. They had played in Chile, and were on their way to a concert in Auckland (or maybe Sydney). Apparently during the incident, everyone on the plane was asleep. Had it been Tool, they would have probably taken photos and we would have an interesting toolband.com newsletter. But most importantly that would also mean I would have seen Tool live. I guess I’ll keep waiting until they discover South America.
