TDG Merchandise

After recently asking for donations regarding Sub Rosa, many people suggested that we make up some Daily Grail merchandise. So we’ve opened a Spreadshirt.com store, which can be browsed at dailygrail.spreadshirt.com (there’s a permanent link on the right-hand side of the page). Currently we only have one design available, “Choose the Red Pill”, which is available on T-shirts, mousepads and coffee cups (amongst other things). More designs (and shirt colour variations) will be forthcoming as we find time – we would of course love to hear suggestions on any personal preferences you might have. With Xmas around the corner, you might want to point out the shop to your family for the perfect gift idea…

    Howdy,

    I love the styles and design, though I agree a wider choice of designs would be good. How about some which incorporate places of interest to this site (e.g. pyramids, Atlantis) – they could by highly stylised or “motifed” to simplify the image, whilst still portraying the site they depict.

    Anyhoo, just a quick question re. the spreadshirt site – Are the prices quoted US or Ozzie dollars

      I’m sure Greg is either very busy or catching his nightly 3 hours of sleep, so I’ll try to field this question for him.

      Like the other legendary Grail, the original has been lost – in the mists of hard-drives past. As is also the case with the other legendary Grail, what we have today are but pale copies of the original, which like all mere copies, lack the original’s mystical powers, such as the ability to be enlarged clearly.

      So in order for us all to have such magical t-shirts, someone must make a holy quest to come up with an original that can be clearly enlarged. It seems to me that the first step on such a quest should be to peer carefully at the pale copies and try to identify all the mystical components. For instance, even though it now looks like one, surely whatever that is behind the ‘TDG’ can’t possibly be an asteroid. 😉 And it seems obvious to me that the pyramidal form is a photo of the top of the Great Pyramid, shot at night, with lights shining upward at it, but I could easily be mistaken about that. After properly identifying these components of the original, we questing knights would also probably need to procure photos of each.

      After all the mystical components are identified and procured, the next step might be taken by a graphic artist. I think Tox recently volunteered to take up that part of the quest, but there may be others who’d also like a shot at it.

      Quite an undertaking, wouldn’t you agree? But since it’s what we all have our hearts set on, surely some knight will eventually succeed.

        No asteroid, just some feathered edges in the Gimp (if I remember rightly). And Poussin holds the key.

          Look, Perceval, since you’re the knight who found – and then LOST – this particular grail, you should be at the forefront of this quest, not hindering it. *cough*a$#h@#@*cough*

          If Poussin holds the key, perhaps that ‘non-asteroid’ is somewhere on this page? Here’s a larger version of Autumn, and here’s a huge version. If that particular Poussin doesn’t ring a bell, maybe looking at all of Poussin’s paintings will jog your memory. Or is it from some other paintings involved in the Rennes-le-Chateau mystery? Maybe this Tamed Eyes Picture Gallery will help. Don’t remember where you got it from? Would a list of Rennes-le-Chateau websites help? Look near the top-left here for Rennes sites listed by owner. Lots of familiar names there. (I noticed they don’t list the philosophy page at dannycarey.org, but then, how would you get the shortcut for that app?)

          Btw, my TDG t-shirts arrived today. Slightly thin for a Colorado winter, but otherwise very nice. That said, it’s time for you to get cracking by cooperating with those of us who would also like to order $50 worth of real Grail t-shirts!

        Ok Tox, let’s make this a mission! Is the actual masthead the highest res version that you have or is there a one a bit higher available? Here’s what I get from the one I just grabbed:

        TDG letters (in metallic silver Copperplate Gothic font) over some kind of celtic curvy thing. I can duplicate the letters but I need help with identification on the circlular curvy thing.

        The words “The Daily Grail”, also in Copperplate Gothic font (can’t decide if it’s light or bold) with a gradiant applied from dark blue to light blue. I can exactly (to the color) duplicate this part.

        The light colored circular “Calendar” object seems celtic, but I need some help with this one.

        The grail is a classic wine goblet shape, with a golden worked stem and a glass (translucent) bowl that has a lens flare effect done to make the light shine. I can duplicate this very closely in 3D Studio MAX.

        The pyramid seems to be Kephren’s, with lights as Kat says. Should be easy enough to find a close one in Google Images.

        Finally, there is the Golden Ratio spiral with a pentagram in ‘Computer Green Screen Phosphorus’ green. This I can also duplicate exactly.

        Well . . . any helpers on the calendar thingy?

          Best get out your magnifying glass – or borrow your granny’s reading glasses.

          Notice that the gradiant is at an angle from bottom-left to top-right. Also, with a little magnification, the font appears to be composed of translucent blocks – an effect that’s probably just due to the pixels, but cool nevertheless. Kinda reminds me of those legendary cities that appear to be built of transparent gold.

          Magnified, it looks like there are letters around the edge, but not all the letters are clear enough to make out.

          Obviously, the person we most need help from is GREG — but for the moment at least, he’s off somewhere exercising his sense of humor instead. 😛

          The words on the symbol are ‘Rosa Crux’. It’s a Rosicrucian symbol, though I don’t know where I found it.

          Keep in mind that any logo design needs to be a minimum of 1100 pixels in width.

            PSD might scale to all sizes, but you will lose detail if you have to scale images upward. Only vector graphics (such as those from Illustrator) retain their quality when scaled upwards.

          3. Point is Moot if base resolution is high enough . . .
            If you make a 300MB file (12000 x 9000 px, for example), as your initial file, then there will be no need to scale up . . . all scaling would be scaling down. I usually do this with ‘important’ art, and I ask myself the question “Will this ever need to be turned into a poster?” If the answer is “Uh, I don’t know”, I make the original base art HUGE, and scale down to what I need. With 200 GB hard drives costing $100, and DVD burners going for under $100, large files are meaningless.

      3. Dictionary definition
        According to Webster, the Masthead would be “The Daily Grail”, and the logo would be “TDG”. Of course, Webster didn’t post the baseball cap comment, so who knows?
