Happy 4th Birthday to my little girl Isis!

Quote of the Day:

The time has come for [Christian Conservatives] to stand up and demand the rest of what they tragically do not have quite all of.

  1. I don’t like Mondays
Why is it okay to ridicule Evangelical Christians, but not Fundamentalist Muslims? I see a double-standard. We should be able to ridicule them both!

As for Mondays … I was wondering why no one else volunteered to do the Monday News slot. 😉

    1. Two words
      Salman Rushdie. ;P

No, you’re right…get me a good idiotic quote from a high-profile Imam and I’ll certainly post it. Or any other group that wants to force their philosophy down the rest of our collective throats.

LOL about Mondays. How will we ever fill that TDG slot now if Rico moves on…

      1. Addendum
I should add that making fun of certain Fundamentalist Christians probably feels more ‘kosher’ (if that’s an acceptable word 😉 to me because I come from a Christian background myself. Where making fun of Islam feels like bigotry, this is more self-criticism/deprecation. I’m probably entirely wrong though…but then those certain FC’s that we mention bring it on themselves really.

        1. Comparitive religion,one world
All humans have a obligation to study religions. There is no more important function than discovering a means to make sense of it all. To bring up certain tenents of various religions as odd or even insane is what makes us human. I personally do not suscribe to oblivion based religions or submission religions. Prejudice is necessary to find one that fits. If the shoe fits, wear it.If the cap fit let him wear it. Create peace, Dennis (from Oregon)

        2. Jewish Comedians
That’s probably why Jewish comedians get away with the most anti-semitic jokes. Mel Brookes, Seinfeld, the list goes on. Ah well, if people can have a laugh at themselves, and not take themselves too seriously, then the world will be a better place!

I remember reading an interview with Terry Jones, ex-Monty Python, talking about The Life Of Brian and how it pokes fun at Jews, Christians, and Romans. His only regret about the film is not having a go at Muslims as well.

Personally, I think radicals of any kind — religion, politics, vegetable gardeners, Egyptologists — deserve to be poked fun at. As you said Greg, sometimes they just bring it on themselves.

I only made the comment because of a few editorials I’d read in today’s newspapers. Australia’s Left can be very hypocritical. Maybe I should just stop reading newspapers, and study Egyptology — now there is a field without hypocrisy!

Hopefully I haven’t set myself up to be made fun of too much in these posts. 😉

          1. radicals or traits
            this is harmless
Two Jews at an American football game, they stand up and yell……..” GET THE QUARTER BACK..GET THE QUARTER BACK “.

    2. Ridiculing fundamentalists
Why do you want to ridicule any fundamentalist of any religion? Just ignore them like any sensible scientest does. Fundamentalists are not going to change so it is a waste of time even though it’s fun to read.

      1. Put the FUN back in FUN-DAMENTAL!
I’ve never known a type of person like the fundamental, who can be as frightening as they are funny. We poke fun at them — whether they be Fundamentalist Christians, Jews, or Muslims — to quell the morbid Lovecraftian terror they instill in us.

Fundamentalists need to put the fun back in fundamental. Where are the Imam versions of Mel Brookes? Why doesn’t Pat Robinson do stand-up comedy? Oh, that’s right, he already does. 😉

        1. “FUN” in “Fundamental”
Unfortunately, most of them seem to be putting the “Mental” into “fundamental” more often than the “fun”.

          😀

  2. Arrowheads and Meth
This was really strange. I had two cousins in Missouri who were always big arrowhead hunters. They had huge collections with very fine spear points and knives as well. This was BEFORE they had problems with meth. Their collections continued to grow during, well not while they were in jail of course, but they had entire rooms dedicated to their hobbies. I wonder whether any others had this hobby before their meth habit? This was the first time I had seen the two things related.

    1. Zany
      It explains Zahi Hawass’ behaviour.

I’m digging up 45-million-year-old crocodie fossils at the Melbourne Museum soon, but I think I’ll just stick to very strong coffee.

  3. Big Fish
    Largest ever? I don’t think so….

“White sturgeon are the largest freshwater fish in North America. The largest white sturgeon on record weighed approximately 682 kilograms (kg) (1,500 pounds [lb]) and was taken from the Snake River near Weiser, Idaho in 1898.”

I’ve seen the photo. That guy was a monster!
