Today we have life-extending pills, the Star of Bethlehem and Randi versus the grilled cheese sandwich. It’s not easy to define TDG news…

Quote of the Day:

Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it.

  1. Healing touch
    Randi’s ratbaggery continues……….

I am surprised that he is taking a swipe at the Healing Touch phenomenon that is currently being taught in many hospitals.
Randi is behind the times on this one.
I suppose if you’ve made a career out of negativity that’s all you know how to do.

    1. one item to note
Although many magicians are Randi supporters (remember that by trade “The Amazing Randi” is originally an illusionist), including Penn and Teller, not all are.

Remember that stage magic is based on misdirection; I’ve found Randi continues doing the same thing as a skeptic because you’ll often see he often points you in the wrong direction (just look at his Nostradamus book as an example), almost as if he wants you not to watch what the other hand is doing…

Randi at times seems to lose sight of larger issues on his crusade. Many people complain that in the current hospital-industrial complex, they feel like they’re pieces of meat on an assembly line. Even if healing touch is not therapeutically effective, it is one of those rare instances where nurses and patients make a personal connection. Perhaps, in the end, that may be one of the reasons why on occasion it improves patient outcomes.

        1. The Amazing Sindicated Skeptic
Randi makes a living debunking alternative/paranomal theory and research. He offers huge amounts of money if anyone can provide proof of the paranormal. He has been known to badger people into nervous breakdowns. Do a google search, you’ll get plenty.

        2. randy randi
Stage magician James “The Amazing” Randi – whose second career is CSICOP debunker.

Many paranormal claims are based on fraud, and Randi says that as a magician whose career is built on fraud and misdirection he can expose these people.

Anyway, the bottom line is, and remains, that just because a magician can fake something in their act, does not mean it can’t really take place.

      1. Healing touch
        Hi Steve,
In some hospitals in Oz and the UK nurses are being taught how to practise healing with their hands. This is not all that new.
I remember reading about it at least 6 or 7 years ago.
It is being used in hospices and also in mainstream general hospitals and is producing excellent benefits.
If the benefits are produced psychologically, they are still benefits.
You are right about Randi’s methods.
That’s why I can’t stand the man.He uses his sleight of hand methods in a devious way against things he knows nothing about.
Just because he could prove how he could do something does not mean others do it.

    Here we go again!

At the slightest hint of approaching Christmas, the Star of B. and co. get sooooo much scientific attention (suposedly) that we can expect no less than a chemical analysis of God’s own shoes!

Guess the Tv stations will play this over and over and over and …
