Reviewing the Secret Teachings

I’ve added a new book review today, on the new “reader’s edition” of Manly P. Hall’s esoteric classic The Secret Teachings of All Ages (see Amazon US and UK). Many of you are probably familiar with this book, but for those who are not I sincerely recommend adding it to your bookshelf. Even those who are familiar with it may well be interested, as this new paperback edition is much more affordable and compact than the hardcover version. Thanks to Mitch for his help in reviewing this book.

  1. Secret Teachings is the best next to my Bible
I first bought this book about 22 years ago. I have since bought two more copies and I also have the big one that is hard to hold for an old guy. I read it almost every night and get something new everyday. My students also see parts of it. I wish I had written it. I will never be able to come close to the fine work.

I have been recommending this to folks for years and I hope Mitch puts up a website to amplify its meaning to humanity. I know he has a new baby and is hard pressed to do much but change the little one, but someday, I would love to assist him in spreading this great knowledge to the many. I would be glad to create graphics for this site.

Everyone should get this book and I wish you all could get the big version…so powerful.

    1. On the way
Just had a look at it on Amazon, and ordered it on sight. Can’t afford the hardcopy, so the paperback “reader’s edition” will have to do. Maybe I can get the wife to buy me the real McCoy for Christmas.

I’ve been reading Chet Raymo’s “The Path”, and “Natural Prayers”. For those who want a fresh perspective on our natural world, and our own condition, Raymo is highly recommended. Just retired as a professor of Astronomy and Physics at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., Chet has a way with thoughts and words that will stimulate your thinking in new ways, without any of the “tree-hugging” emotionalism that gets so tiresome.

      1. I am a former university person also…
So glad you bought the book. A person of your intellect will indeed enjoy the works. I also am about to retire the profession…don’t know what to do with all that I have done in my life…what does one do when they are so valuable to humanity yet humanity does not know them at all? I guess its the backdoor…I’m taking that book with me.

        O.

        1. Second career?
Why not consider sharing your experiences and philosophies with the world in print? It needn’t be a weighty tome; have a look at Chet Raymo’s offerings on Amazon – they’re fairly small, quick reads that provide interesting glimpses into nature and the human condition.

If you’ve kept anything like a journal over the years, it could prove invaluable. Close friends with whom you’ve shared your thoughts are also a source of ideas. As for producing something “new”, or “earth shattering”, I wouldn’t be concerned; just become a storyteller with the hearts and minds of your readers as a target. You may be surprised at how much you have to share outside of the classroom.

It’s funny, but Frost’s comment about “way leading on to way” has played an important part in my life. I ran across an article by Chet Raymo on the Orion Society website, which started me off on a whole new tangent, opening up new and exciting modes of thought. I wouldn’t consider myself a scholar, but I love learning (and sharing knowledge) more than anything else. Good luck.

          khefre

          1. Indeed, excellent advice!!!
I have written a few things. I have done over 600 articles for newspapers as a columnist and there is a book online at http://www.enigmni.com and I have produced 1500 paintings in my long life. I think I shall take your que and start putting even more of my stuff up online.

Thank you kind sir. May we keep in contact? And, if you have other friends who think as you do please put them up to coming here to explore.

            Cheers,

            O.

          2. Experience, the best teacher
Sounds like your resume is ideally suited for a second career as an author. I’m on here quite frequently, and I’ll assume I can get in touch via your website, and while I’m there I’ll peruse the ebook. I’ll send you my email, if that suits.

          3. I have many Toffler Works…
No, you cannot get to my e-mail via my site. It was done by Hearst some six years ago and I have not updated it since. We are currently trying to put something up like this site only in a more graphic fashion. We will be adding storyboards and etc. The story online is actually much larger in that the one online is a rough and is growing. We are working on a movie version and a video game concept. I am at the behest of my former students so I am in hopes that they will kick in the afterburners before I die (which I hope is a long way off). Anyway, I will post my e-mail address very soon.

If you get a chance look over the blog here under Oscar and let me know how you feel about a new CyberArts Curriculum I am supporting for America’s Schools specifically Texas.

    2. Secret Teachings
Well, Oscar, you have nagged me to death about this book and I went out and ordered a copy last spring just to shed the guilt;-) I even read the conclusions first as you prodded, but now it’s front to back time and it is slow going. It even has travelled to Lapland and back with me.

      Thanks for the encouragement,

      Xavier Onassis

      1. Lapland??? How was the weather?
It is a hard but good read…I bought a rough copy just for notes in the margins…all my 2.500 books are marked up. I love them that way. No one else will ever be able to use them except my grandkids. They might get a kick out of some of my remarks. I am so glad you got a copy, now there are more of us on our way to becoming the dream of Mr. Hall…Philosophers…as of old.

        O.
