nothing much happened

Probably the catholic church wants to run out JP2's term slowly, without the really popular guy. Now they have some time to decide what they really want to do, when the world is not paying as much attention as it was this time.

End of the church catholic?

Part of the prediction was a black pope. Wrong no, the Panzer is the Black Pope, the Jesuits call their secret leader that. A Spy system that spans the globe and history. Opus Dei, God's Work created during Franco's Spain is a new creation. Its extremes draws many people. The world is filled with extemes, the ancient blood feuds have been rekindled. There is more then religion going on here. This is a war. The cause has not yet been crystalized but when the fuse is lite. You will have a Jihad a Crusade. And it will not end till it is exhausted. Look around you, start to see we are the same people. Teach others that their suffering is yours. Maybe we can lessen the pain of ourselves, others and those yet to be.

Intentional or not?

I voted 'intentionnal' but.... I'd have preferred another option such as 'partial fulfillment'. JPII was born, elected and buried on a day of solar eclipse. His motto can mean 'toil under the sun' and he toiled and travelled a lot etc etc etc. So there were multiple instances verifying the prophecy.

Ratzingers choice must be somewhat intentionnal - it would be too dumb if he never heard about it and never made the connection. But I feel this is only a partial fulfillment. There will be more clues, I guess. The Glory of the Olive, Olive is Israel - Israel's Glory would certainly be the construction of the new temple. Could it be that under Ratzi's reign the temple might be rebuilt? And after that will we (most certainly) see the Abomination of Desolation?

Interresting times indeed.....

Born and buried on the day of

Born and buried on the day of an eclipse, perhaps. But his election fell two weeks after an eclipse, not on the same day. I checked.

JP2

This has made me realise how much I just accept what is written or on the TV without checking for myself. I'm sure that much of what I pass on in conversation as truth is often urban myth status. Problem is, we only know what we're told, not all of us has either the ability or the facility to check out for ourselves. Carry on doubting - and let the rest of us know.

I didn't vote.

The olive branch signifies peace and hapiness, traditionally referring to the nation of Israel.

Pope Benedict XVI met with members of the Muslim community last Monday, revealing that the Catholic church wants to build "bridges of friendship" to help carry on the mission of peace in the world.

"...peace is also a duty to which all peoples must be committed, especially those who profess to belong to religious traditions. Our efforts to come together and foster dialogue are a valuable contribution to building peace on solid foundations."

"It is therefore imperative to engage in authentic and sincere dialogue, built on respect for the dignity of every human person, created as we Christians firmly believe, in the image and likeness of God."

"I assure you that the church wants to continue building bridges of friendship with the followers of all religions, in order to seek the true good of every person and of society as a whole."

The Pope specifically mentioned Jews, naming them his "brothers and sisters" who were joined with Christians in a "shared spiritual heritage."

"Your presence, dear brothers in Christ, beyond that which divides us and casts a shadow over our full and visible communion is a sign of sharing and support of the biship of Rome, which can count on you for following the path in the hope and for the belief toward he who is the head, the Christ."

It would not surprise me if, on the verge of war, Pope Benedict XVI acts as a mediator for peace as many past popes have attempted to do. Perhaps he will suggest building a Christian Parish and a Jewish Temple next to the Mosque on the Mount in Israel. Now that is more significant to the olive than his name. Until then -- and until assuredly the final Pope Peter the Roman hits the stage, Malachy's "prophecy" is irrelevant.

I'm for peace. I'm a little concerned about the motives -- the facade of temporarily achieved peace. It will not come through a leader -- it will borne a leader from the heart of an already peaceful people.

The Temple

Why would the Temple of Rome give way to the Temple of israel? I like my rock.

Prophecy intentional fulfilment

It would seem to me that whether intentional or not, the fulfillment remains. If a prophecy is exact, it must take in consideration what thoughts will be processed to make it happen from the time of its pronouncement to the time of its fulfillment.

Whether it is conscious or unconscious, whether it is believed that the impact is willful or not in the mind of those who fulfill the prophecy, in the end, the actor in the event flow of prophesized events is only carrying the process or life program. They are made to do what they do.

In other words, it does not matter that someone would have thought or not to intentionally fulfill the requirements as the very establishment of a prophecy already holds all the consequential chain that leads to its fulfillment, including the though forms that will be inseminated in time. It is contained because as time flows, the invisible continues to inseminate intentions that conform to their plan.

Even the prophet himself does not know the chain of consequences and so is used as a channel for information or disinformation that already is the beginning of a chain of manipulations over time that will leave impressions on a great number.

If that were not the case, prophecies would not be possible.

Prophecy Intentional Fulfilment

I agree Richard. There is a tendency to think that if people know a prophecy then they will either act to make it come true, or act to try to make it become false. This is just an assumption.

But it leaves out something. A 'prophecy' that is insignificant (whatever that may mean), will just be forgotten, lost in the mists of time, or simply ignored. There must be countless thousands of such prophecies.

It is only when people find something curiously intriguing about it, or significant about it, that they start to consider it as possibly being predictive. This in itself is inherently part of the prophecy. In such a case the prophecy starts to be fulfilled.

'Whatever you do, comes back to you'

Prophecy intentional fulfilment and confusion

What strikes me is that prophecies magnetize the mind tremendously. The game is to give a few good hits here and there while the rest creates confusion and insecurity.

In the end, it is only after that you really know. If you do know before what it all means, you also either know it is of no use to you or 'it is known' that you won't either use it for your own sake or that people would not believe your case anyway unless it was to create even more confusion or fear.

What is really important then is to be aware that we are living at the end of a cycle and that things can simply not go well for the civilization in those times. The individual must then learn to elevate his own mental state sufficiently to not be affected psychologically and this will allow him to know or to be led internally to also protect his physicality.

Otherwise, we end up spending a lot of time in further gathering of useless data instead of doing what we are supposed to do: evolve.

A Moor

More on the black pope. On Benedict's coat of arms the Black Moor of Munich's coat of arms. And several personal symbols from the writings of St Augustine. My latin is not what it should be but I believe the motto is uncovering the truth, or the overwelming truth. A MOOR reversed spells ROMA minus a, o. HA HA HA!

Pope Benedict XVI is Third Order Oblate of Benedictine Order

Pope Benedict XVI is a Third Order Oblate of the Benedictine Order
He is therefore actually a member I have been told, just of the thrid order lay variety. JPII was actually a third Order member of the Carmelites. Actually the Benedictine Rule first applied to lay people before it became a monastic order formally.

Benedictine Olives?

The new Pope's choice of name, and his tangential relationship with the Benedictine Order, are completely irrelevant. There's a huge element of wishful thinking in the notion that "olive" signifies the Benedictines. It doesn't. There is a sub-branch of the order called Our Lady of Mount Olivet; but so far as I'm aware Ratzinger has no relationship with that.

Anyway, it's "glory of the olive", not just olive. And the Latin "olivae" does NOT refer to a colour. It refers to the olive tree, or an olive branch, or to olive as a botanical entity.

Two possible meanings: an Olympic athlete (crowns of wild olive were awarded to ancient victors) or a Nobel peace Laureate. JPII was nominated a couple of times but never won it, mainly because the politically correct Norwegians who dish out the honour didn't like his stand on contraception. I don't see this changing much in the future.

You're right

I agree Omphalos that we are stretching things a bit to make him fit the prophecy.

I am interested in Ratzinger's early days in Germany. It has been stated that all youths were forced to join the Hitler Youth. This is not exactly correct. They were certaily pressured but not forced. It was Ratzinger's choice to join.

Like the fact that Wojtyla as a young man worked in a factory in Poland that made the Zyklon B gas for the gas chambers,I think there is a connection we have not made.

Personally I think that gloria olivae refers to the fact that Ratzinger is a Nazi sympathiser and Hitler always wore an olive green uniform.
I have been told this by a person who himself saw Hitler.

I don't know much about Nazi uniforms but I do know that I have seen many pics of Hitler and his officers in drab green, which is called olive green.

That pretty much makes Ratzinger the glory of the olive as far as I am concerned.

Didn't know much about this

Thanks guys for all you information... I hadn't been following this in detail much. I have never felt the "religions' of the world were on the up and up... they seemed more like a business to me.

I think this guy's first name should raise a few red flags... "RAT" singer(z)? let alone the name he chose after his election... does anybody know why and when they started the name change after elelction? Egyptians did that all the time when they were crowned "Kings"..

Deb

Is Benedict XVI the last pope?

I can't find a really good list of Malachy's prophecies, but one thing I noticed on the few I looked at, is one pope is missing. St. Celestine V. If you read about him and the following pope, it's ugly. I read up on them both in the Catholic Encyclopedia and a few of the popes after. It wasn't long after these two popes, the popes began to take up residence in Avignon.

Here's what I found concerning the last pope: (In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End.)

As far as prophecies go, I think you can read almost anything into them, however, I found it odd this one could almost apply to the overlooked pope as well as what is considered to be the last pope.

Anyone else find this odd? Or is there a prophecy about St. Celestine V I haven't found?

celestine V

Celestine V was pope for a few months in 1294; he was, I think, the only pope ever to resign and also the oldest ever elected, well into his nineties. Dante put him in hell, blaming the great schism in the Western Church on his "gran rifiuto", or "great refusal".

In Malachy's list, the motto corresponding to his reign is "ex eremo celsus", or "raised from a hermit". WHich indeed he was, having been raised from obscurity as a compromise candidate. I don't know what went wrong with the lists you found, but no doubt they derived from the same printing error.

A more interesting point, is that Malachy's list only works (ie matches up with the pre-1590 popes, and finishes with the current pontiff) if you include all the antipopes at the time of the schism, which official pope-lists tend to leave out. I've never come across a satisfactory explanation for this, or even mention of it.

El Popo

Papacy is the most extreme form of narcism there is, mainly because it's so wildly accepted. Doesn't mean it's not nutsville. Mahatma Gandhi said "If a thousnad people say a foolish thing, it's still a foolish thing". Pope Benny's only claim to fame is that he succeeded John Paul the second and he'll soon be forgotten too. The Catholic church is one of the world's greatest purveyors of lunatic soup thinking there is; the only reason the Pope is anti birth control is so that more Catholic boys will be born to be abused by the bishops!
