”I’d take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.”

Quote of the Day:

The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be.

  1. Dude the site looks awesome! I don’t know if this post will work yet, but it looks frickin’ awesome! Nice job Greg and everyone involved. Also digging the new logo. Clean, nice, awesome.

  2. Great looking website Greg, however it’s lacking a field for log in.

On Super Vulcano’s, it’s great that the scientists research to be able to predict within decades when disaster will strike, but i would prefer they’d research how we could prevent the thing from exploding explosively.

On the starving pinguins.. w.t.f. are we trying to starve whales too fishing on krill, what is used for, fishfeed?

    1. In the Southern Ocean, krill is the primary food source for many Antarctic animals including whales, seals and penguins. Strong krill stocks are vital for the existence of the entire Antarctic ecosystem.

In the last decade or so, bigger and bigger fishing boats have been engineered to hoover hundreds of thousands tonnes of krill out of the ocean.
Wildlife populations have declined as a result with case studies reporting malnourished humpback whales stranding off the coast of New Zealand and penguin populations plummeting.

Something needs to urgently be done about it

      1. Hi LastLoup,

Yes, the Gravatar thing is a bit annoying…Wordpress.org unfortunately trying to force people into WordPress.com in my opinion, which is not very nice. I’m looking at alternatives that might offer ways of uploading your own image direct to the Grail, and/or using social network avatars…it’s just a tedious process of working through criteria (will the plug-in go out of date, is it secure etc.) before settling on a solution.

On the flip-side, Gravatar does allow a persistent avatar across WordPress sites without having to upload a new one every time, so it does have its upsides. But, as I said, in my opinion it’s not ideal to force users into registering outside of this site just so they can have an avatar.

    2. Hi Rho:

Thanks for the kind comment – can you be more specific about the “field for log in”?

(In case it’s what you were referring to, the navigation menu bar in the header has a user icon that can be clicked to allow log-in/log-out.)
