Hoppin’ Holidays

The Xmas season is upon us, and as usual visitor numbers to the site will drop off for a few weeks as everyone travels, gather with friends, or just set up camp in good pubs. I’m therefore using the opportunity to take a few weeks off from TDG. I’m also encouraging the other admins to take some time for themselves as well, because this can be a gig that burns you out quickly.

As such, posts on TDG may be sporadic over the coming weeks, it may even stop completely at times. The solution for those of you who are still looking for your daily hit? Simply check our Stream site for user-contributed stories (there is a permanent link beneath the logo above).

On the flipside, there will be nothing there to read unless users also contribute stories of interest (all members of TDG are able to post stories at the Stream site) – I urge anyone with interesting news, a website update of note, or a cool new book, to post a story to pass on word to the community. It’s a simple process, you can find out more in this primer. Try to structure the story much as you see here on TDG (and please note: there is no need to sign off like you do in an email, as your username is added to the post automatically). I have set a very low moderation threshold on the Stream site, so that anything posted will almost straight away be allowed on the front page. If something is offensive, vote it negative and it will likewise disappear off the front page.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused during this ‘holiday’ time. Best wishes to all for a safe and happy Xmas period, and look forward to 2006 with you all.

  1. Monday
I’ll be here tomorrow, and the rest of this week if people would like something to read, but next week I’ll be sleeping. There’s a lot of turkey to be eaten.

And Kat, no way are you filling in five days a week! Take a much-deserved break, although spending it on trying to tame feral kittens might not be the holiday most people have in mind. 😉

I’ll post my movememnts tomorrow, but I’ll probably take 2-3 weeks off too. I only wish I had a property like Bill’s I could escape to ….

Dammit, there are drunk people on my roof. I’ll be right back …

EDIT: Drunk people have gone (or gone back to their own roof, I can still hear them).

  2. Have a wonderful break
To Greg and all the other Admin posters – have a restful, peaceful and happy time over the next few weeks. My very sincere thanks for all your hard work over the last year – the veritable feast of items you have found for us far surpasses any Christmas turkey!

    Love to you all, Kathrinn.

  3. Christmas holidays at TDG
Several years ago, during the Christmas season after I first discovered TDG, I remember there were several of us TDG addicts who had severe withdrawal symptoms when Greg, Bill, and Jameske took time off for the holidays. We addicts – and you know who you are – are the ones who hear ‘Home for the holidays’ and think, ‘but…but…TDG is home!’ At that time, the only place readers could post anything was in the comments section, so we filled up the comments section under Greg’s last pre-holiday News Brief with our (slightly pathetic) displacement behavior. (Blast from the past: ‘I want my… I want my… I want my TDG.’)

Now that we have a blog section and The Stream, even when updates to the front page are sporadic, I’m sure there will still be plenty here to read and discuss. So after you’ve shopped til you’ve dropped, or while your visiting Aunt Martha is spending another two hours in the loo, or when you’re burnt out from watching (or listening as someone else watches) 3 football games back-to-back, feel free to take a break from the holidays by dropping by TDG.

I almost forgot… TDG also now has news feeds from Space.com, etc., which will allow you to keep up with the latest science news during the holiday break.

    1. holiday……..whats that?
Hey Kat….if you need a break…..the cat population here at Talgai is growing and I am in need of a good cat psycholigist.Seems to be some strange feline behaviour going on.

Anyway……safe and happy Christmas to all……

DISCLAIMER: the opinions and veiws in this post are mine only and are not those of others or of TDG. Any similarities are by chance only.

  4. Withdrawal
A very pleasant time of year to the admins of The Daily Grail. Have a well deserved break.

OK, that being said, no one mentioned that withdrawal would be so hard!

A safe and happy New Year to all,
    Thommes

  5. Have a happy and safe
Have a happy and safe holiday everyone. I hope you and your families have a great time. I will probably be lurking here when I am not at work lol, Oh well at least I am not working next xmas

    Best Wishes to all
