News Briefs 02-01-2012

Back in black baby! Help us keep rollin’ in 2012 by chipping in a few dollars – hell, if people can give James Randi a few hundred thousand a year, surely we can at least make a tin cup rattle just a bit…

Thanks RPJ.

Quote of the Day:

Every atom you possess has almost certainly passed through several stars and been part of millions of organisms on its way to becoming you. We are each so atomically numerous and so vigorously recycled at death that a significant number of our atoms – up to a billion for each of us, it has been suggested – probably once belonged to Shakespeare. A billion more each came from Buddha and Genghis Khan and Beethoven, and any other historical figure you care to name.

So we are all reincarnations – though short-lived ones. When we we die our atoms will disassemble and move off to find new uses elsewhere – as part of a leaf or other human being or drop of dew.

  1. Mystery foam: Manna from heaven?

The foam is whipped up by strong winds once or twice a year along the town’s seafront and vanishes soon after, a spokeswoman for the agency told the Guardian.

Lab tests on samples collected in earlier years have found no signs of pollution. Decomposing algal matter is the prime suspect for the mysterious lather.

This reminded me of this: the Manna machine.

The Manna Machine is an ancient astronaut book by George Sassoon and Rodney Dale which concludes that a machine device was given to the Israelites, when they went on their 40 year journey in the Sinai Desert. The device was said to create manna, a type of algae. It explains how the Israelites survived their 40 year wandering in the Sinai Desert. It is said by Sassoon and Dale that a nuclear reactor used to power the manna machine was stored in the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark was supposed to have powered the machine to run continuously, producing manna for six days. On the 7th day it would be taken apart for cleaning so it could run the following week. This is where Sabbath is thought to come from.

So maybe they got the algae part right, but instead of being churned by an ET machine, the Manna might have been naturally occurring?

  2. That ‘Yeti’ Finger
The sad part of this story is the fact that the finger was stolen from it original owner and despite knowing that the finger is stolen property, no attempt has been made to return it to its righful owners.

    Shame on those involved.
