Spielberg UFOs

Cryptic billboard posters appear for Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure’

It’s here! The marketing campaign for Steven Spielberg’s next movie ‘Disclosure’ has started, despite the film not screening in cinemas until June 2026. Kubrickesque posters have appeared in LA and Times Square, and there’s plenty of symbolism to keep Dan Brown busy. If you fancy yourself a Harvard-educated symbologist, take a look at the poster below. The tagline reads:

“ALL WILL BE DISCLOSED 06.12.2026”

The bird immediately strikes me as a blue jay; but my money is on a cardinal, a species native to North and Central America and named after the Catholic Church’s red-robed clergy. It could also be a blue jay — the trickster bird in Native American folklore. Like most birds, they can be symbolic of messengers. Hey, at least it’s not an owl this time!

Red Pill Junkie suggests the bird silhouette could be alluding to The Aviary, a clandestine group created in 1980 by Colonel John Alexander. It’s allegedly comprised of intelligence agents, military, scientists, aeronautical engineers, with the goal of controlling the UFO narrative. Like a page out of Alan Moore’s The Watchmen, each member of The Aviary is given a bird as a code name. Colonel Alexander is ‘Penguin’, Hal Puthoff is ‘Owl’ — and Dr Christopher Green is ‘Blue Jay‘. Considering Puthoff and Alexander were involved in remote viewing programs, could the poster’s eye surrounded by a halo be referring to this? It’s hard to say. Luckily, Colonel Alexander kindly wrote a book about The Aviary to explain it all. Is there another member nicknamed Cardinal?

Former Air Force intelligence operative Richard Doty, a well known figure in UFO research, said the US Air Force used the code name Cardinal for “known UFOs.” He also claimed a captured craft, “CARDINAL-3”, was stored underground In a secret military installation. Given the trustworthiness of Doty (and the man himself saying we can’t trust him), it’s hard to swallow (pun intended). Trevor Paglen wrote a terrific article that goes into more detail for those not savvy with UFO history.

And we can’t forget Mark Pilkington’s book Mirage Men, investigating the links between US Intelligence psy-ops, Hollywood and the obfuscation of the UFO phenomenon. It makes one wonder if Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure’ is part of this — or it’s just entertainment, man. Greg has covered Mark Pilkington’s work over the years — here’s one article to get you started.

The plot of ‘Disclosure’ is a closely guarded secret, but rumours abound it will be a spiritual successor to Spielberg’s classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and E.T. The Extraterrestrial (1982). Some early footage was released recently, with Variety providing this description:

Spielberg introduced a behind-the-scenes clip that didn’t quite confirm an alien theme, though plenty of menacing figures in unmarked black cars were seen chasing Blunt (who appeared in several scenes as an everywoman in a rural area).

From the title alone it’s obvious the film will deal with government knowledge of the UFO and extraterrestrial phenomenon, but the poster gives us a more esoteric vibe. In 2023, Spielberg appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and shared in-depth what he thinks the UFO phenomenon might be (the nuts-and-bolts crowd might want to look away), and hints that the government knows more.

Disclosure‘ stars Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, Josh O’Connor and Colman Domingo, and is due to hit the big screen on 12th June 2026. I’m sure Luis Elizondo is getting his tuxedo dry-cleaned for the premiere…
