MJF and the Occult

Our good friend Mark James Foster (Sub Rosa’s graphic design guru) sends word that he has a new book out, co-authored with Simon Cox. The book, released today, has the self-explanatory title of An A to Z of the Occult (Amazon US and UK). Proving himself quite the Renaissance man, Mark not only co-wrote the book, but also designed the cover – you can check out his full portfolio (including his Sub Rosa work) on his Artifice Design website.

  1. Occult
The occult gets bad press because it is just that – occult; hidden. Due to this it can attract dubious people, but more often people are suspicious of what they fear. And what they fear is what they don’t understand.
Science and religion are past experts at making sure this remains the case. By ridicule, or by ignoring it, they guarantee people will continue to be frightened. When in reality, I think the most frightened are them – the occult, mysteries, paranormal, holds evidence that they haven’t got the answers yet.
    Terrifying.

Reality, like time, is relative to the observer.

    1. secrets
Advocates of the occult insist on keeping secrets. This is different from science, in that science tells you how you can learn about science. The “occult” says that you just have to think the right way and then you will know. Which strikes many people as being, well, bullshit.
