Decided to switch gears and return to my ‘Versus’ series of #paranormal characters, and since it is the beginning of the Spooky season, what better match than… Ghost-hunters VS Psychic Investigators! 👻👻👻
I should be upfront by saying I am not a fan of ghost-hunting TV shows. Even though the paranormal and reality TV seems like a match made in corporate heaven, IMO these type of programs heavily distort the actual nature of unexplained events for entertainment value. Amping the tension with music and fast editing before going to a commercial break, just to discover the strange noise that got everybody freaked out was a whole lot of nothing, is not something I find enjoyable to watch.
That being said, I have a few friends who have been (or are currently involved) in these type of shows. I’ve listened to their personal anecdotes, and when they confessed they have experienced really weird things in so-called haunted locations that escapes their understanding, I believe them.
But I also think they would be the first to admit all the thousands of hours of recorded EVPs and grainy IR videos showing doors opening or closing by themselves, or chairs that rock by themselves, will never be enough to convince the scientific community or professional skeptics.
Do I believe in ghosts? I think I do. But that doesn’t mean I find the popular conception of what a ghost is palatable. Just like with the UFO phenomenon, I suspect we need to have a better understanding of the true nature of Space and Time, before we can wrap our heads around the issue of spectral apparitions. I also suspect humans play a pivotal part in these phenomena—perhaps because our unconscious plays tricks on us, or maybe because discarnate entities use us as ‘batteries’. Who knows…
