…Aaand just like that, we’re already in September. Yikes!

  1. One of the places where I worked a few years ago required the Myers-Briggs as the final step in the hiring process. Someone in HR forgot to administer the test to me (she was brand new herself) and I was offered the job.

After working there a couple of months and being no longer on probation (so I must have been doing okay), the bomb was dropped on me that I must take the missed Myers-Briggs. It ticked me off and I objected, but was given the strong impression it was take the test or don’t let the door hit my butt on the way out. So I took the damn thing.

Let me tell you, it’s a pretty easy test to fake out, especially when you’re left alone it a room to take it and have paper and pen stashed on your person (this was my little act of defiance) . My personality profile results were nothing at all like who I am. I showed them to friends and family and we all had a good laugh.

It turned out the company’s president was an advocate of the test so that’s why it was issued to all prospective employees. Later when I left the company, I asked what the test results were used for during the exit interview. The test was administered, basically, just to keep the company’s president happy. Results were simply filed away, not used for anything treated as confidential, and wiped when you left the company.
