So our beloved Brontosaurus is back, and Pluto’s planethood might get reinstated this year. What other retro-scientific term should merit reinstatement? –Why hello Luminiferous Aether!

Thanks to Little Foot.

  1. Diabetes Too
    http://www.projectcbd.org/conditions/diabetes-2/

“Oxidative stress and inflammation play critical roles in the development of diabetes and its complications. Recent studies provided compelling evidence that the newly discovered lipid signaling system (ie, the endocannabinoid system) may significantly influence reactive oxygen species production, inflammation, and subsequent tissue injury, in addition to its well-known metabolic effects and functions. The modulation of the activity of this system holds tremendous therapeutic potential in a wide range of diseases, ranging from cancer, pain, neurodegenerative, and cardiovascular diseases to obesity and metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and diabetic complications. This review focuses on the role of the endocannabinoid system in primary diabetes and its effects on various diabetic complications, such as diabetic cardiovascular dysfunction, nephropathy, retinopathy, and neuropathy, particularly highlighting the mechanisms beyond the metabolic consequences of the activation of the endocannabinoid system. The therapeutic potential of targeting the endocannabinoid system and certain plant-derived cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabivarin, which are devoid of psychotropic effects and possess potent anti-inflammatory and/or antioxidant properties, in diabetes and diabetic complications is also discussed.

  2. news
Treestar: aaaaand just like that nostalgia kicks me in the face.

Zana: wait if she had children than that’s means someone was essentially fucking a giant ape. Are the women in Russia that rare?!

Guru Rinpoche: The Himalayan Count of St. Germain. Fantastic read 🙂

    1. Nostalgia

Man, I really liked that movie. The Spanish translation was quite good, too.

Re. Zana: From what I've heard the Russian village where they kept her captive was (a) tiny, and (b) right in the middle of nowhere. There's a reason why bestiality has been a long-held practice in our species, ya know 😛 (

Now, does that mean getting jiggy with an Almasti or a Bigfoot amounts to bestiality? IMO the fact that Zana managed to have a progeny shows she was either human or almost human)

Re. Guru Rinpoche: He'd beat St. Germain ANY day of the week, vato! Guy could shape-shift AND rode a pregnant tigress. That's like a Tibetan version of He-Man!! 😛

      1. meh

They probably knew each other for all we know. *envisions a 18th century Justice League* sigh….good times 😉

      1. That or…
A daring game gone too far…

(Victor): Hey Ivan, I bet you are not man enough to go near the ape woman!

(Ivan): Oh yeah? well I bet YOU are not man to go near her AND plant her a kiss in the mouth!

        (Victor): Oh yeah?!

        (Ivan): Yeah!!

The rest, as they say, is history 😛

  3. The hate for Jar Jar
You know in this context though, Jar Jar is kind of the fool. Like the fool of old legend or the Tarot, at first the fool is annoying and almost pointless, but as he goes on his journey, he finds purpose and meaning. When I think of Jar Jar in that context, especially in a Shakespearean tome, it makes him into a more romanticized figure that I can put up with. Don’t get me wrong I understand the hate people have for Jar Jar but when I first saw this film I was 12 and it didn’t bug me as much. I think that was the point of Jar Jar, to appeal to a younger audience since many of those who saw Star Wars back in the day now had kids of their own (well that and to sell toys lets be honest here). When in fact it just made many fans hang their heads in shame. With this book, I’m more intrigued how they are going to play up the character with only two lines, Darth Maul, who I admit is still a favorite of mine. There is so much more they could have done to build on JJ’s character and make him less of a dingus, maybe this book will be able to now that he “thee’s” and “thou’s” things.

Doth Jar Jar wishith to make a man of thoust self? Aye. We shall seeith in the morrow.

    1. For kids
My own personal theory of why the prequels sucked so much is because George Lucas had become a father by then.

Of course he wanted the movies to be appealing to little kids, ‘safe’ for kids to see and enjoy. But that’s where he completely crashed the whole thing!

The original Star Wars was more aligned with what old fairy tales used to be: They had amputated arms, opportunistic scoundrels and heroes put on the moral dilemma of killing their own father in order to save the galaxy. Fairy tales weren’t supposed to be ‘safe’ and pleasant either! They have terrifying wolves that eat your grand-ma, or cannibal witches who will lure you with candy into their lair to make a stew out of you.

Fairy tales were meant to impart important lessons to little children –don’t trust strangers, always be on the lookout, things are not what they seem. Our world is full of danger and gore, and that’s why fairy tales had to keep up.

If Lucas had fulfilled my fantasy of making Jar Jar commit suicide after realizing Padmé was dead and the Republic in ruins because of HIM, I might have been able to forgive him. Maybe with the Shakespearean treatment, I might get my wish granted 😉

  4. “Tech titans want to make you immortal”
I can’t resist quoting one particularly good comment on this article:

“This venture demonstrates that these ‘tech titans’ are neither wise nor smart regarding the reality of morality or mortality. They have confused mind with brain, and spirit with personality. They will never live long enough to see this vision tossed on the trash heap of bad ideas and wishful thinking. They are mortal and they will die right along with the rest of us.”
