“Life is a pure flame, and we live by an invisible Sun within us.”

Quote of the Day:

“…Every man is a Microcosm, and carries the whole world about him.”

Thomas Browne

Anyone else notice we seem to have a lot of meteors recently? This one, the story of the UFO that Red Pill posted yesterday, and I think there was one at the start of the week. Not to mention the eclipse and the gamma burst/aurora, shit! If this was the 1400s we would think it the end of the world!

“Whether you saw a divine being or your brain was merely pumping out chemicals…”

Why not both? *Mexican music plays*

To anyone who got that reference, my apologies, but I’m coming to an interesting paradigm right now where I’m noticing that the distinction between “spiritual” and “material” may be a superficial one.

I mean, what do we even mean by this “I” that is distinct from everything else? If matter can become conscious, doesn’t that say something really interesting about matter?

It’s hard to really gauge this point of view if you have no idea of it and I feel like most people don’t.

It’s a little bit easier when you see that the materialist point of view is just a poorer version of Cartesian dualism with “Souls/God” taken out. It never got the chance to ask itself why it thinks the world is “material/hard/physical/mechanical” stuff in the first place (hint, hint: because it’s taken from a Judeo-Christian view that saw God as the divine/supernatural/spiritual creator and the world as it’s non-spiritual/divine creation with humans as quasi-divine “souls” that inhabit the mindless creation in material bodies). Try to see the world from a different perspective that doesn’t make that distinction and most of the problems of consciousness seem to disappear (at least fundamentally, we still have a lot to uncover).

But I’m sick of discoveries needing to point to a material explanation or a divine when neither are mutually exclusive.
