“The good thing about science is that it’s true whether or not you believe in it.”

Quote of the Day:

“If your philosophy is not unsettled daily then you are blind to all the universe has to offer.”

N. deGrasse Tyson

  1. Jered in the Sky with Diamonds
… to continue the dialog with Emlong from the last news thread –

Jered Diamond hasn’t a clue how the world is really run and why societies rise and fall. I used to be an idealist and thought that the age of international cabals had ended and weren’t relevant, but my eyes are now wide open. Things haven’t changed THAT much from the days when the royal family controlled everything. In fact, we are moving back in that direction rather than away from it. But, if we are about to get the shit kicked out of us by another major catastrophe (space rocks, Yellowstone mega-volcano, whatever), then what’s the point in fighting it? And if we don’t get nailed, then somebody or something still has to make the hard decisions to manage the world. It’s not going to be us, that’s for sure!

The world can’t suddenly change into a utopian society where there is total transparency and honesty. It has to evolve organically, which means that “what it is, is always less than what it could be”. There is deception and illusion everywhere in nature. Truth AND Falsehood were both pillars of ancient Sumerian society. They aren’t mutually exclusive. I don’t see any way around it. It must also the case out in the Universe. Advanced Intelligence has to be capable of preserving knowledge and simultaneously creating deceptions (to protect itself). To be trite, rose bushes need thorns.

Even the Beatles employed deception (by way of metaphor and acrostics) in their music. The comments on the Youtube page are priceless!
