And you can dream, so dream out loud.

Quote of the Day:

“Sleeping is the height of genius.”

~ Soren Kierkegaard

  1. Jason and the Golden Fleece.
Some years back, I was told that the story of the Golden Fleece was based upon Skythian gold mining legends.

The idea, and it was shown to work quite well, was that a fleece was put into a frame and set down into a stream or river that was either below a known gold deposit or which had been known for gold panning. The fleece caught flakes of gold and gold dust and held them fast. Every few days, the Skythians would remove the various frames and harvest the gold from the fleeces.

The original story might have involved early Greeks stealing these fleeces from the waterways, or perhaps some other idea. It’s lost to time.

But apparently the fleece system does work, as experiments have shown, so there’s that. 🙂

  2. as a life long short person
i must comment on the “short people” study. i want to point out that they used average height women and used virtual reality to make them perceive themselves as short. they did not use people who live their lives being short…therefore the only conclusion one can come to is: that when average women perceive themselves as short, they are more prone to paranoia. i further offer that perhaps “feeling” short is different that actually being short.

now, i’d be happy to volunteer for the vr study for how short people act when they perceive themselves as average height…or even *gasp* tall! lol.

    1. Pronoia for Hobbits
they did not use people who live their lives being short…
Yeah, it’s a weird study and I don’t think it really tells us much that we didn’t already know. To be honest, I really just linked this article to make a joke about Red Pill Junkie taller folk being more prone to Fortean websites. And to plug Pronoia!

      1. I agree – I wonder if this
I agree – I wonder if this study came from the University of the Bleedin’ Obvious. Everyone gets paranoid and uncomfortable if they’re made to “feel small”, and looming over someone is a tried and tested intimidation tactic. And why only women as subjects? Guys are more likely to be taller.

Yeah, it’s a bit of a weird one, and not too well thought out.
