News Briefs 01-02-2010

A palindrome of news:

A howling thanks to Kat & Perceval.

Quote of the Day:

“What’s real? What’s not? That’s what I do in my act, test how other people deal with reality”.

Andy Kaufman

  1. Circular pattern an Airburst?
I wonder if the circular pattern was an impact airburst?
These are known to happen about 13 times a year.

  2. Satan! Oscillate my metallic sonatas

Well-played sir, well-played. Though you could have been more subtle and introduced the news with “Are we not drawn onward, we few, drawn onward to new era…” ;P

  3. Sprung!!
Although I am a regular visitor to the BOM website (Oz), and the radar image page, it wasn’t until I read the news item featuring Colin Andrew’s anomalous findings that I realised you could view a National picture as I don’t usually expand the page to full size (option only becomes visible then).

Next night, to my surprise, a big solid white doughnut was flashing in the middle of Queensland! Following night, still there but had devolved into a scatter pattern like the one shown by Andrews over SW Western Oz. Unfortunately I hadn’t worked out then how to save off the picture, so no record.

This problem rectified now, but since then no strange patterns. An earlier visit tonight produced nothing, but I just checked again and although still no patterns, the following message was at the top of the page:-

“Please note we are experiencing technical issues with the radar images resulting in circular shapes appearing unexpectedly at times. We will endeavour to look at this problem as quickly as possible.”

Could they possibly have been horrified that someone had noticed, and are now working out a way to hide them? Nasty suspicious mind, haven’t I?!

    Regards, Kathrinn
