Happy Arkhipov Day! ‘Glasnost’ is not a dirty word.

Quote of the Day:

“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.”

Albert Einstein

  1. Who killed Brad Will?
    Hmm… I remember this incident.

Juan Manuel Martínez, an APPO sympathizer, has been detained pending trial since October 2008 for Will’s murder. However, experts from Physicians for Human Rights and the National Human Rights Commission have concluded that Will was not shot at close range, and Martinez is said to have been standing right next to him when the shooting happened. Amnesty International believes the evidence against Martinez is flawed and he is a being used as a scapegoat.

    Te cae??? (No s*$t!)

And not that those APPO idiots are white doves, mind you. Their protest caused a lot of damage to the state of Oaxaca.

In October 2009, Mexico’s National Supreme Court of Justice concluded that serious human rights violations were committed in Oaxaca state. It attributed responsibility for many abuses to some senior public officials, including the governor of Oaxaca state. The Court called for those responsible to be held to account, but the authorities have yet to respond.

Oh, they’ve responded all right! Ulises Ruíz, the governor of Oaxaca, says that he respects the decision of the Supreme Court; but he doesn’t have the slightest intention to step down or take any responsibility. He’s a sacred cow because he’s a member of the PRI (the political party that maintained the power for over 70 years until 2000), and the PRI controls the Congress right now.

  2. building glaciers
I like the guy who listened to the complaints about disappearing glaciers and decided to do something about it. Although the scale is not really what the headline suggests, if you consider:

His own work has now been recognised by the Indian government, which has given him £16,000 to build five new glaciers.

But I like the idea – ice management as part of water management.

    1. Don’t panic…

I do believe Slartibartfast was on a much higher rate…
