Today’s news is an eight-White Russian result, Daz. Er, make that nine.

I know other astronauts share my feelings… And we know the government is sitting on hard evidence of UFOs.

1. Alabama Cattle Mutilations
To whom,

This link goes to a site that presents the story as contemporary, but much of it is stolen from a (probably faked) “official report” with a date of 1993.

So joe82 who posted on abovetopsecret.com is disingenuous in presenting to a forum. This is why people don’t take much of this sriously.

Report on Cattle Mutilations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sand Mountain, Alabama
Press Conference – Fyffe, Alabama
“Presented by the Fyffe Police Department; Fyffe, Alabama”
Charles “Junior” Garmany, Chief of Police
Boyd Graben, Mayor, City of Fyffe
Ted Oliphant, Investigating Officer

Date: Wednesday, April 7, 1993, 1:00 p.m.

Beginning in November of 1992, the Fyffe Police Department has been conducting an investigation into unexplained cattle mutilations in cooperation with neighboring police and law enforcement agencies. These reported incidents began on October 20, 1992 and have continued through the last week in Marshall and DeKalb counties.

To date over thirty (30) animals have been discovered dead in pastures with various internal and external organs missing. The incisions examined on there animals exhibit a precise surgical cutting. In many of the cases there has been evidence of extremely high heat at the tissue excisions. The absence of physical evidence adds to the mystery at the majority of mutilation sites. Though many animals have been found in soft pasture land, and in many cases mud, there have been no footprints, tracks, or marks found anywhere near the mutilated animals…

2. Hunger…
The only cases of starvation in the past 100+ years have come at the hands of tyrants, dictators and other thugs who have used starvation as a weapon to keep their people in line.

Anyone who wants the “developed nations” to end world hunger has to be willing, then, to have those same nations use their military forces to overthrow the current governments and institute some form of democracy. There are no other options.

Starvation in democratic nations is unheard of. In places like Somalia & Yemen, it occurs because the warlords who rule there steal the food donations and sell them themselves.

Respects,
Gwedd

1. Mexico
Mexico is a “democratic” nation.

More democratic than Somalia, anyway.

And there are a lot of people starving down here.

I don’t want the US to come here and “set things right”, though. There was too much of that in the 1970s and 80s in Latin America.

In the end, I don’t think democracy is something to be imposed. It should develop on its own; although a little proper outside help wouldn’t hurt.

There are probably more people starving in the US than Mexico, so they have no lessons to give anyone… 😉

1. yes we do!
[…]so they have no lessons to give anyone…
Yes we do:

A little chili pepper can help you forget hunger 😛

1. yes we do!…
I meant the US has more people starving than Mexico and the US has no lessons to teach anyone when it comes to feeding its own citizens. Sorry for the misunderstanding… 🙂

edit: And btw, Haiti also have a creative way to fight hunger. Mud cakes…

2. Damnable lies…
By all means, blame America first! It’s always the cowards way out of facing real problems. Just blame America!

Leftists in America love to maintain the meme of millions going hungry. It is a myth created to keep pushing their agenda of destroying capitalism and replacing it with failed socialist ideals.

I would love to debate the issue with you, but it’s not worth it. It’s just amazing that the folks here have such open minds about so many things, but are willing to accept blindly the tired old meme that America is to blame for all the world’s ills.

Respects,
Gwedd

3. whoa Nelly…
Didn’t “blame” America anywhere in my posts… Get your facts straight and stop victimizing yourself by misplaced paranoia, starting with not misinterpreting what I wrote…

Cheers

edit: I’m probably more capitalist and on the right than you could ever wish to be…

3. artificial human brain
10 years, eh? Based on the numbers presented (10K neurons today), I find that optimistic, even for a rat brain. But then, it’s not as if they claim in the article to simulate the entire brain. Nor do they really say they simulate each natural neuron. On the surface this looks like yet another bottom-up approach, all of which have failed so far. Of course we can learn from failed approaches, and not just “it doesn’t work,” we can learn much more. I would do it differently, but I would have to get my ass in gear and write the grant proposal 🙂

There are some other worrisome things in the article. Such as

“There are two billion people on the planet affected by mental disorder,” he [Henry Markram, director of the Blue Brain Project] told the audience.

A whopping 28% or all humanity has a mental disorder? This is a problem, and I think it is a problem of definition. What is a “disorder”? If we look more with the current we may find, eventually, that 60% or 70% have a mental disorder. If this happens, who has the disorder? The 70% who are not the norm, or the 30% who are?

No amount of cursing at the round earth will make it flat.

1. Zombie Alert!
Could you ever trust someone with a brain implant? What happens if someone can flick a switch and hijack Bob for anything from surveillance to attack?

Hopefully, the article is just more hyperbole. However, it is not far from successfully simulating a brain to replacing bits of one with some extra code thrown in for good measure.
