    Interesting article but I do have one question: if the canyon featured was carved by a tremendous torrent of water, why does it meander so much for the first 600 yds? If such a volume of water was able to carve away solid rock, it surely any cutting through rock would be in a straight line heading away from the source of the water.

    If the flow was such that it was able to meander, this would cast doubts on the theory.

    Take a look at the topographic view of Box Canyon included in the report.

      How do we know the rock was solid, as opposed to having cracks? Or the rock just having an uneven surface, so the initial flow of water was not straight?

      Look at the Niagara River. It is carving out a fairly deep canyon even as we speak. None of the canyon is particularly straight.
