Apocalypse now!

Quote of the Day:

We must act as if the apocalypse has already occurred.

  1. Playing God: I can hardly wait!!!
I’m so excited for this new game. It’s gonna be either the greatest game of all time, or a dissapointment of epic proportions. Kinda like the Segway, if you think about it…

Anyway, when I play it, I’m gonna see if I can simmulate the Overlords of Arthur C. Clarke’s “Childhood’s End” —yes I know, if you read my last blog entry, you will realize this book made a huge impact on me!

What will your creatures look like?

  2. Bloodline – too good to be true?
I admit that I am not an expert or totally aware of all the goings on in this area but looking at the latest links makes me think that it is all too good to be true.

To prove the ‘Bloodline’ theory, an ancient tomb containing a body, symbols of the Templars, gold treasure, a ‘grail’ and the Star of David would be just what was needed – and this is exactly what we are told has been found. For me, this find, with all its imagery plainly visible for all to see, just doesn’t ring true.

I viewed the original black and white footage from when the tomb was first discovered, and the new colour footage: I noted that the position of the camera is different so have they made a new hole into the tomb or an error in their production? A small point I know but one that simply reinforces my view that all is not right with this ‘discovery’.

I do hope I’m totally wrong and that there is something truely remarkable in the tomb, and that the ‘Bloodline’ theory is vindicated. I guess only time will tell.

  3. Hypnosis and Attention
I’ve published a fair number of science papers on the nature of hypnosis in both cognitive and physiological terms. It is simply a state of focused concentration in which one attends to some things while disattending other things. Those “things” can be imaginary, induced in the person when they voluntarily accept the suggestion of the person supposedly hypnotizing them.

Nobody can hypnotize someone else. A person can *only* hypnotize themselves. The fact that we typically only see someone appearing to hypnotize another simply reflects our society which doesn’t include the sort of mental discipline that makes it easy. We generally need someone to encourage us to do so, believing that they are “doing” it. Anyone who is hypnotizable (a few aren’t, and some are barely, while most are moderately and a few highly) after having “been hypnotized” can easily apply experience of the state to promoting it in themselves.

Although I never got the chance to study those of other cultures, it was always our supposition that those who could enter a trance state and exhibit behaviors or physical reaction beyond “normal” (ie. Sufis, Buddhist monks, etc.) were in fact simply applying the capability we all have but which their culture promotes.

Lest anyone think that “hypnotizing others” requires some talent or skill, I offer my experience. On my first assignment to do so, I “hypnotized” 60 people at once simply by reading a script, and not believing until I had done so that hypnosis was even a phenomenon in and of itself. No experience, no talent and not even believing in it; only words on paper got 60 people to do it to themselves.

But having done this, I saw some amazing things. I’ll never forget the regression task which got people to write their name in their 1st or 2nd grade handwriting. Afterwards all those who managed this task instantly recognized their own handwriting from decades prior, a printing technique which they couldn’t consciously replicate. When one of our students showed this to her mother, the mother called us and wanted to know how we got into their house and took a sample of her daughters’ elementary school papers. I enjoy being proven wrong, especially when there’s such cool evidence generated to show that proof.

YES. Yes I AM the brain specialist.

    1. Useful insights there
      Useful insights there DynaSoar.

Even so, from the perspective of a ‘normal’ state of consciousness, and even for a meditator such as myself, it’s hard to imagine ‘dissattending’ the pain of someone sawing into your thumb!

On ‘hypnotising others’ – what can you tell me about the supposed hypnotising of chickens by drawing a line in the dirt? Is there any evidence that animals can do (self-)hypnosis?

My guess is that other animals can achieve a hypnotic state, but can not do so without outside help, because they can’t be told it’s possible, as humans can.

    2. What about you?
Have you been hypnotized Dynasoar? If so, how does it feel like?
