As the 24th Solar Cycle begins, Melbourne is hit with a 108-degree-fahrenheit heatwave.

Quote of the Day:

I’ve discovered I’ve got this preoccupation with ordinary people pursued by large forces.

Steven Spielberg

  1. Jonathan Black
I have read the book and have to say that I have mixed feelings about it. Sometimes I would find myself nodding in agreement while at other times I had to question the author’s sanity. Nevertheless, I think that even if the material presented in the book is often – in my view – questionable, Jonathan Black (Mark Booth) is sincere.

That is more than I can say for Damian Thompson, the Daily Telegraph reviewer who, like many in the media these days, have taken up the cudgels of CSICOP and are out to batter anyone who doesn’t agree with the present orthodoxy. Take a look at his blog at http://counterknowledge.com/ … it could have been written by James Randi himself. In the first few entries he’s having a pop at Intelligent Design, John Anthony West and Graham Hancock. But he reserves some special vitriol for Mr. Black. On Jonathan’s blog, Damian Thompson writes:

“Jonathan”, something I’ve wanted to ask you for ages: do you believe all the shit you write and commission?
    Damian Thompson

    Black replies …
Dear Damian, I’m not the monster you suppose. Meet me for a drink. Best wishes, Mark/Jonathan

Thomson’s comment (on his own blog) …
“Monster” isn’t the word I’d use. As for meeting you for a drink, what could I say, except that you are a disgrace to publishing?

So much for the intellectual cream of the British broadsheet journalists. And they call the tabloids the “gutter” press.

By the way, I found the work of Richard Smoley on the Western esoteric tradition far more, shall I say, “digestible”.

    Dave.

    1. Thanks Dave
I didn’t know about Damian Thompson’s blog, his replies to Mark are deplorable. Kudos to Mark for remaining polite. And Thompson’s boorish attacks on Robert Schoch’s credentials are despicable. I’d love to say what I think of Thompson, but I don’t want Greg to be emailed a lawsuit. 😉

In fact, I might write a letter to the Telegraph about Thompson and objective impartiality in journalism. Yes, I’m an idealist, and I know there are journalists and editors out there who still believe in integrity. Will I find any at the Telegraph?

      1. Journalists with integrity
Those are indeed a dying breed 🙁

It’s not the depth of the rabbit hole that bugs me…
It’s all the rabbit SH*T you stumble over on your way down!!!
