Vikings, mammoths, and bigfoots, oh my.

Quote of the Day:

What power would Hell have if those imprisoned there were not able to dream of Heaven?

from The Sandman Vol 1: Preludes and Nocturnes, by Neil Gaiman (Amazon US or UK).

  1. Fat chance
When I read ‘…may help untangle Kat’s power/computer cables’, I almost fell off my chair laughing.

I’ve been on an organizing binge lately, and made what could be a supernatural discovery: my cables and power cords are apparently procreating. When I moved 3 years ago, they all fit in one 2-cubic-foot box. As of a couple of weeks ago, I discovered I now have five 4-cubic-foot boxes full, including half a spool of new CATV cable. I also found at least a dozen red-yellow-blue component connectors, two red-yellow-blue-white-red component connectors, and one optical component connector, all brand new and still in their packaging. Out of curiosity I stopped by Best Buy and found out some of these things sell for up to $90 each, so, in spite of my defective memory circuits, I’m quite sure I didn’t buy them.

I can hardly wait ’til I start organizing my computer stuff – there’s no telling what sort of goodies I’ll find in that closet. Who knows – I may even find the cords to my scanner and printer.

  2. black and silver cars
I dimly remember from the early 1970s that black and silver cars were having more accidents then too. I’m certain that insurance companies have numbers on this.

Back then, the theory about black cars was that they look like holes, so the subconscious mind says it is safe to go there. Which is why you hit those things.

Silver cars get lost in the fog, haze, or rain.

Red and white cars get more speeding tickets because the police can see them.

    —-
A day for firm decisions. Or is it?

    1. I wonder …
It would be interesting to know if anyone has ever done a psychological or sociological study of this. For instance, is there a specific psychology to drivers who buy a particular car colour? Are more cars of a specific colour likely to be hire or company cars – the drivers would maybe take more risks if it wasn’t owned by them.

Reality, like time, is relative to the observer.
