News Briefs 15-07-2005

After watching the video, hellbenders are now on my favorite critters list. We may crash their server, but I couldn’t resist posting a link. p.s. Watch out for those satire pieces in the middle.

Quote of the Day:

At the Make Poverty History march, the speakers insisted that we are dragging the G8 leaders kicking and screaming towards our demands. It seems to me that the G8 leaders are dragging us dancing and cheering towards theirs.

  1. Great Pyramid may still contain Khufu’s intact tomb
Possibly, but very doubtful! One supposes that if zahiamunraaten does find a 4th dynasty tomb, then that will be a 1st. He can’t find any others!

Maybe zahiamunraaten’s permanent apendage, Mark Lehner could elaborate on the future proposed documentaries.

Will Z let you play Mark, or are you destined to study fish bones and bread tins for the term of Z’s natural life???

  2. Researcher says the sun has a hard
and rigid ferrite surface below the photosphere that can be seen in SOHO photos.

    cool,

the signifficant change in suns’ density .. occurs somewhere ……………. starting after 2/3R from surface(/below photosphere) there we have downward tensing layer/shell behind that shell(is also sort of barrier) is more fluid or less dense material and futher densing toward center … no recs. on solid core – but perhaps that just no records

  3. @tlantisTV isn’t really news
    http://www.lantis.tv/tv/aboutus.html

    from the FAQ:

“Every week tens of thousands of Internet subscribers anxiously await news updates on a fictional archeological dig in Antarctica. World-class archeologists are even submitting their resumes to @lantisTV in hopes of joining the expedition. And educators who “get it” are using @lantisTV as a valuable learning tool to capture the attention of jaded students.”

  4. Gilgamesh
Great re-telling of such an ancient tale. I must sit down and read the full epic one day.

What are your thoughts on the Nephilim Kat?

    Interested that’s all.

    H.

    1. Nephilim
      >>What are your thoughts on the Nephilim Kat?

Voldemort could be one of them. 😉

Actually, although I’ve read a little about them, I still don’t know enough to really have an opinion.

I do have an opinion on Gilgamesh, but sorry, you’ll have to wait for the long version. 😉

      Kat

  5. Anomaly
The satellite image the site provides of Antarctica, if genuine, is intriguing in showing two faces — one full view, the other profile. But I’m not sure where the ‘anomaly’ is on that image. Doubtful it’s up near Halley — that would be too coincidental.

    1. They’re wonderful!
      Hi TA,

I thought you’d died and gone to Heaven or wherever it is good TAs go.

I love salamanders but we don’t really have any in Australia. If I am wrong please someone correct me.
I was given an axolotl once and I think I was careless with it and it died.I still feel bad about it.
One of my grandsons was telling me about finding one in a puddle in Vancouver and we spent days on the net looking for the correct one.
In Queensland we have geckos living in the houses and I love them. The Asian gecko has taken over in Brisbane though as it makes a noise like a bark.
When I lived in the country my house was full of geckos and they made no noise at all and when I moved back to the coast I amazed to hear them barking.
So the country ones must have been the native ones.

TA can you tell us something about the hellbenders,if you have any experience with them.

Yes thanks Kat for the great link and for all the other stuff on the news. You did a fantastic job.

  6. Harry Potter Day today
    Hey Kat,

Better get out and get your new Harry Potter book. And we don’t mind if we don’t hear from you for a while, we know what a fanactic Harry Potter lover you are.

    1. Potter and Gilgamesh, who was first?
Are we certain the Harry Potter industry is not claiming copyright violations on the authors of the Gilgamesh story? The seem to be quite serious about those things.

  7. surface of the sun
if this theory is substanciated, it has far reaching implications.
the sun therefor would not be as hot as thought. This would explain why space is cold. the heat we feel is really produced here on earth as a reaction to various waves from the sun interacting with our planet. this inturn would change our whole idea of heat energy.
    this could become very interesting.
Thanks heaps for that one Kat.
    by the way….my e-mail bounced back….

      That was an email bouncing.

Does shadows have your new address? She could send yours to me.

Did you use the TDG contact button for my address?

I’m beginning to think you’re just tryin’ to drive me crazy. If so, I assure you it won’t work, because I’m already there.

  8. Quote of the Day
Btw, you might want to read the article linked under the Quote of the Day. The G8 is giving all that “African aid money” to CORPORATIONS to spend as they see fit.

    Kat

    1. The fine print
My understanding is that the Debt that is being forgiven is conditional on those countries to open their resources to Western corporation exploitation.

Is that not a ‘Shylock’ attitude?

A benevolent one-world government should, if it ever were to happen, make illegal any country ceding its resources to third parties, including and especially corporations. In any case, corporations should never have been granted the status of ‘persons’. They have now more rights than any individual.

How can we expect these countries to escape their state of poverty if we strip them of their resources? Only a few will benefit and that usually includes the country-ruling despot. There are reasons why we have supported world dictators for so long. Our ‘bigheartedness’ is never for free, it is always conditional.
