A great line-up assembling for our Daily Grail anthology – stay tuned…

Quote of the Day:

When a person identifies himself with a group his critical faculties are diminished and his passions enhanced by a kind of emotive resonance. The individual is not a killer, the group is, and by identifying with it, the individual becomes one. This is the infernal dialect reflected in man’s history.

  1. A kilogram of beef
According to The Fart Factor” the flatulence produced by Su Taylor and the rest of the vegetarians is far worse for the environment than if they were eating beef.

    Bill

My ancestors did not claw their way to the top of the food chain to eat vegtables.

    1. Good point
maybe that is why I have such sharp teeth.

      grrr

Back to the point.. CO2 gases and all. I do believe that our vehicles emit other gases than CO2 right?

Those are pollutants too, right? Or have I missed something here.

No one talks about acid rain anymore. It is all global warming. Am I the only one who feels like they are wagging the dog and distracting us a bit?

      1. Plasrtic bags
        Good morning everyone,
Yes, Marissa, you’re right. The global warming debate detracts from other pollutants. I like to refer to the plastic bag. We use billions, and they are not bio-degradable.
Where do they go? Well, there’s the chemical scum settling on the seabed, getting into the ecosystem, and into the food chain, where they are colonising the human body.
Give it time and we’ll have the constituents of plastic bags in our genes. Plastic bags are evolving intelligence through symbiosis.
Okay, that last sentence may be ridiculous, but do you see the point?

        I’m fanatical about moderation

      2. ahhh, Marissa…
your a clever little bunny aren’t you!

Distractions…mmmm..let me see, right, think of what is happening in the world each day, then think of how these things can and are making millions of dollars for a few.

Then think of any news that would exspose these things.
Can’t….well there are a lot but they are short, sweet and gone. But any news that relates to the going trend is smeared all over the place.

The US war budget for 1 year would solve the starving children problem. The money raised so long age for “live aid” should have.

The bottom line….absolutly nothing is done if there is not big money to be made for a select few.

I have watched and anylised this for many years, there is not 1 government or multi-national company that has, or will put people before profit.

Believe me, they will watch you die before giving up a few bucks.

        1. Very true
          Hi Floppy,
You speak a lot of truth there, but don’t follow it up with a simple assertion. Unlike totalitarianism by force, this lot feeds off our greed. We want the lifestyle, and they know we’ll ignore the implications to get it.
Hence, they’re in power because of the consumer. All we have to do is stop spending.

Sin is what you’ve done once you’ve been caught.

          Anthony North

          1. hi Anthony
I did say a few days ago that we can be in control if we stopped buying.
But there is more at play here…..we are “brainwashed” in front of the TV to want or need something. So what came first…..the chicken or the egg……
Not only that, there is the peer pressure at school, don’t want to be left out.
Then there’s “keeping up with the Jone’s”.
It is a circle but they are very good at letting us know what we need.(not want).
When something becomes not as important to buy…..it can then become something that has to be bought, through a necessity for normal life in this society.

Mobile phones, I remember when the car phone first become available. I was working as a builder and found it annoying.
I did not buy one until I was forced to by the way people quickly adapted to the convenience. I’ve not been without a mobile since those good old days. Not by choice.

Now, the extra exspence of having a mobile was not passed onto the consumer. Yet now nearly everyone has a mobile.
The same with many other technology that we have in our homes. We carry the burdon of the cost but are not able to pass it down the line.

Toll roads are another example. We believed we were paying for our roads and repair of by fuel tax and regostration. But what happens, a bloody toll road. So we pay extra for roads to use which other wise should have been free to use.

What i’m getting at is this…every year we are slugged with more to pay but the same to earn.
What is not known is the “behind the scenes” stuff to make things happen this way. A very good reason is to keep people in debt so they have to work. Sure, some fall through the cracks and land on their feet, but the majority don’t. They just keep struggling believing that it can get better. As soon as the better comes along, another thing happens to rape our pockets.

It is a design, and will be known soon.

“Life can be whatever you want it to be, as long as you do what your told.”
            LRF.

          2. Agreed
Yes, it’s slow conditioning. I keep trying to de-condition my kids. What becomes most alarming is that they actually try to stick up for the system, for big business. It’s like a one big, huge cult.
The sting is even more apparent in the UK where we used to have a state pension, nationalised industries and most people rented their home.
Since the 80s its all changed round – even the pension is beginning to degrade. And it is so obvious that rising mortgages and private pension plans are the only things keeping big business going.
People are working all hours to afford mortgage and pension. To me, that’s serfdom.

Morality takes two. One to do and one to judge.

            Anthony North

          3. it’s sad really…
            and the absolute in control.
If you were to look at the past objectly, you will see when things are good and people are prospering, there will be some form of disaster to distract from legislation of some form that makes it harder for us. It is designed to keep control.
The UK, as in Australia, did exsperience a boom in the eighty’s, this was the turning point. There was a lot of money around. I even earned more then I could spend. But then it turned to shit. We had control and it was not the way for the “*********” to survive the comming decades. So it was turned around to trap all in a cycle of debt. Create money for them. But to always give an impression of “better times”. A bit here and a bit there, just to keep up hope.

If we are as smart as we think we are, and with the tech we have now, then why are we as worse of if not worser (my word) then we should be.

If progression is moving forward, then we are not.

Think of it as this, We, as in all money producers in the world, are the OCTOPUS. Now imagine a MAN trying to grab it. To control it. It takes time to get all 7 tenticals under control. Yes, I said seven. The man leaves 1 free so the octopus can scratch any itches to keep it resonably happy. Every now and again he releases a tentical. This produces an element of hope in the octopus.

This is how WE are controlled. The perseption of freedom and the illusion of “things will get better”.

Any fool can see that the world has not got better for the masses. Only the few. Big business has record profits each year. Kids starving in africa still. The humble home ever further out of reach, but the dream is still alive. The mis-conception that we are living longer. Shit, look in any cemetry and see how long they lived.

Cancer running rampant, regardless of new drugs and treatment. It’s all an illusion to make money.

Too much to mention here. This is way to big to cover simply. But you may get my drift. I know you are a believer in global warming. So I will not go there.
But Marissa did mention a distraction……think about this.

“Life can be whatever you want it to be, as long as you do what your told.”
            LRF.

          4. To go further
First, one little amendment, Floppy. I’m not a ‘believer’ in global warming. I base my acceptance of it on rational thought.
I don’t raise this to be awkward, but to show how language is used in your ‘octopus’. We automatically ‘categorise’ everything, whether we realise it or not. Hence, I must be a ‘believer’, rather than rational.
This process of conditioning exists throughout society because it’s basic human nature.
In a previous thread I said how super-capitalism was devised as a ‘weapon’ to smash collectivism – that’s why it is so extreme and all-pervading. But I can go further.
You point out that we don’t seem to be moving forward. I agree. But why? Throughout our history we have been ‘curious’, wanting to know things. If there was a barrier, we had to cross it. What barriers are left today? The whole planet is known, in terms of land.
The barrier we are facing today is the biggest one. If the sky is clear tonight, look up – you’ll see it. At this point in time we’re chickening out. Any space exploration is automated or orbital, a thing I have likened to ‘flies buzzing around something dead.’
We haven’t the guts to get up there yet, so we’re descending into trivia and denial.
It’s time for blast off – while we still can.

            I’m fanatical about moderation

            Anthony North

          5. yep
got to agree with you. Instead of running around making up excuses and putting fettered bandages on a pussing sore, we should run down to the chemist and get clean dressings so we can go to work…..build that great future!

mmmmmm, if only that fettered bandage guy didn’t get me into an obligation with him. I know, when I finnish my obligation with the fettered bandage guy, I will go and get that clean dressing and move on.

“Life can be whatever you want it to be, as long as you do what your told.”
            LRF.

          6. PS…..
are christians and others “rational” in their belief?
Not that this is a fair comparison.

I do believe in science…..I just like to see all sides.

“Life can be whatever you want it to be, as long as you do what your told.”
            LRF.

          7. Leap of Faith
Kierkegaard devised existentialism to defend belief in God from reason. A Christian had the ‘choice’ to deny reason and take a ‘leap of faith.’ He may be rational from this point, but the initial step is irrational.
Mindst you, I’d put the same tag on logic. Take the syllogism (spelling might have failed me this time).

            All philosophers are wise
            Plato was a philosopher
            Plato was wise

Lines two and three are logical, leading to a logical conclusion. But the first line is an axiom, or self-evident truth.
How close is this to belief?

            I’m fanatical about moderation

            Anthony North

          8. science
it must be there….so we will name it……therefore it exists…….it has a name.

yo yo’s don’t always yo yo….sometimes they just yo……the string breaks.

Being logical is a rational belief. Being rational derives from logic. Yet nature prooves this wrong all the time. We can make a logical assumption on a rational line but then be confronted with the irrational or illogical outcome.

            We have much to learn.

But constraint and being controlled is not the rational or logical way to achieve this.

“Life can be whatever you want it to be, as long as you do what your told.”
            LRF.

          9. >> It’s like one big, huge
            >> It’s like one big, huge cult. This process of conditioning exists throughout society because it’s basic human nature. …Throughout our history we have been ‘curious’, wanting to know things. If there was a barrier, we had to cross it. What barriers are left today?

The system encourages only a conditioned nature which includes the worst aspects of human nature — competition and self interest rather than cooperation, etc. The only socially acceptable form of spirituality is unquestioning belief in dogma, while the inner search for truth is anathema, or worse, illegal. When’s the last time you saw a mainstream media article about the value of introspection/knowing yourself? Imho, we should get our own house in order before aspiring to the stars. Until then, space exploration will just be another method of transferring money and power to those who already have too much of both.

            Kat

          10. old problems
The problems you mention are very old. They are essentially problems of inequality between people, and some of those in a position of advantage exploiting some of the rest.

Assuming that we have been around for about 100,000 years, we have not made any real progress with these kinds of problems. What makes anyone think we will make progress soon?

I think we have to work on everything. There are enough people. Some would work on the old problems, others should work on frontiers such as space travel and deep sea exploration.

Also I believe that the solar system is our house. We should not hide in only one small room, it limits our understanding of the whole.

            —-

Where minutes are kept, and hours are lost.

          11. Space exploration
Very true, Kat, but let me offer a possibility. We have never got it together as a species. In many ways we never can, or should. We need diversity to evolve as a species, so we need ‘differentness.’ But within that, we also need to learn co-operation, and work together towards something. Maybe space exploration is that ‘something’ – the answer.
The present form of ‘oppression’ is an overbearing super-capitalism, powered by big business working on our greed. The history of expansion and exploration has been the history of trade. Not government or military, but the need to trade.
Before government, European empires were created by the East India Companies. So isn’t the answer obvious? Space exploration should become the purpose of big business, thus diverting them from the trivia-infested world they have produced.
This leaves humanity a chance of getting it together on the planet, and curbing big business in space once they’ve done the work.
Just a thought. Think about it.

Reality, like time, is relative to the observer.

            Anthony North

  2. Going medieval on us.
Lets see. Purgatory, nope don’t exist. Sorry no refunds on masses for the dead.Have brought back Latin Mass with prayer condemning Jews:( Reclaimed that Catholic Church is the only true spokesman ( and they do mean man ) for Jesus/God and every other, except sister orthodox church will land you in the hot place. Now the sudden closing of the vast Vatican Library. Paying out 660 million in L.A.( what, not 666 ) Don’t see how all this will help the PR Dept out. Wonder what the grand plan is. Or is Jesus coming back real soon, and their trying to look busy:)

P.S Vit.C doesn’t work on colds. Have found that Rum does not cure common cold. But when applied to liver in liberal amounts, one no longer cares about illness. And sleeps till spring!

    1. not medieval, essene!
Because apart of all the things you have already mentioned, we´re now being told by not other than Benedict himself, that Jesus was a essene after all, despite all the ctriticism that theory got by the Vatican since the 60’s.

PS: if you think Rum works, you should try Tequila! Salud! 😉

  3. Yes, indeed!
Very astute comments all of you. I, too, have been wondering whether the Great Global Warming Flap is being pushed down our throats constantly to distract our attention from something else. As yet, I haven’t been able to come up with any possibilities, which rather tells me that whatever it is is something very devious that will definitely be to our grave disadvantage. No doubt we will find out when it is too late!

I find also that many are confusing global warming (if indeed it actually exists) and general pollution. Yes, pollution needs to be cleaned up, but it is not the same thing as GW.

Our local Council recently sent out a flyer to each household detailing the requirements for garbage disposal (they have just imposed a tax on commercial operators dumping garden waste at the local tip). Under ‘domestic’ I spotted a sentence that read “Loose items must be bagged” I rang to ask what, exactly, they classed as ‘loose items’. The girl informed me that it was stuff such as paper or light items that could blow around if the bin was being emptied in a strong wind. When I asked what the Council expected us to bag such stuff in, I was told PLASTIC BAGS!!! Bloody marvellous! And we don’t even have a recyclables bin or bin-section either. Very environmentally conscious, I’m sure!

    Regards, Kathrinn.

    1. Refuse collection
      Hi Kathrinn,
The system works very cleverly. In my local council we have had a recycling policy thrust on us. We now have two wheelie bins, a big plastic box for cans and a plastic bag for paper. Recycling waste is collected once a fortnight, and normal waste, including food, also once a fortnight.
The hassle and environmental health issues are enormous. Now, I class myself as an environmentalist. But it seems that many authorities are imposing it on us in such a way as we will get fed up of being green.
      That’s clever.

      I’m fanatical about moderation

      Anthony North

    2. Plastic Bags
Don’t know what you can do about your garbage, but I compost what I can. And when I go to the store I bring my own bags, and get 6 cents off for each one! Making grocery bags is a great summer project for kids! As for your garbage service, it seems that your community needs to become more involved in the process. Maybe something can be done to make it more friendly to the envirnment.

      1. Eco-friendly
‘Maybe something can be done to make it more friendly to the envirnment.’

That’s the problem, Bladerunner, I’m becoming increasingly worried that they’re not bothered about making it easier for the community, or friendlier for the environment. People without gardens, or in flats – a great many of the elderly – are having extreme difficulty. And not collecting waste weekly is becoming a hazard.
I do the recycling, but the complaints are mounting – and justifiably. Maybe its just UK local governments. They never seem to get anything right anyway.

        I’m fanatical about moderation

        Anthony North

        1. Not just the UK.
The people need to take back their power. The government is not about being a parent;do what I tell you and shut up! We need to be involved in local and county policy. Not just told what to do. The creation of home owners and rental associations provides a clearer voice for the voters, before, during, and after elections. Too often special interest groups that have little to do with the “real community” are shaping policy. You don’t have to be one angry voice.

  4. Pentagon’s high altitude balloons
    Oh, brother!

I can see it coming already: ROSWELL 2.0! 😉

    Cheers
