Quote of the Day:
It's an amazing thing to think that ours is the first generation in history that really can end extreme poverty, the kind that means a child dies for lack of food in its belly. We have the science, the technology, and the wealth. What we don't have is the will, and that's not a reason that history will accept....

Hidden message
Hmmm - there appears to be a couple of crudely hidden messages in the story link to the "Alien Interview" story posted here today.
On the first page from the link, the section which purports to be an excerpt from the letter sent by Matilda O'Donnel MacElroy, there are a number of letters that are in a different colour, red. When separated out in sequence they spell out:
the domain is here
If you then click on the link (top right of the page) saying "Read the introduction", the same code can be found again. This time, the message reads:
earth is a prison planet
Not sure that second message is anything to do with Alex Jones' site Prison Planet.com
Not sure what this is supposed to achieve. It's such a rubbishy 'cypher'.....
Anyone else spot it? What are your thoughts? Maybe just a silly marketing prank for the book??

The 'domain' is the word
The 'domain' is the word used for the alien group.

Book Reviews
Alien Interview by Lawrence R Spencer is temporarily out of stock at Amazon US & UK, but at the Amazon US link, you can read an interesting excerpt, including a description of the alien and actual pages of the interview, via Amazon's 'Search Inside' feature. You can also order the book now, and Amazon will email you an estimated delivery date.

Alien Interview & Science
When you read the 'Prison Planet' excerpt from the 'Alien Interview' book, you find out that Earth "is not suitable for settlement or permanent habitation for any sustainable civilization" because:
1) The continental land masses of Earth are floating on a sea of molten lava beneath the surface which causes the land masses to crack, crumble and drift continually.
2) Because of the liquid nature of the core, the planet is largely volcanic and subject to earthquakes and volcanic explosions.
3) The magnetic poles of the planet shift radically about once every 20,000 years. This causes a greater or lesser degree of devastation as a result of tidal waves, and climatic changes.
And at first you might be compelled to think "Geez, it's true! We DO live in a very crappy planet!".
But then, you read this paragraph from the 'Mercury is shrinking' article:
Besides Earth, Mercury is the only other terrestrial planet in the solar system with a global magnetic field. On Earth, this field forms a bubble that protects us from dangerous solar particles. Earth's magnetic field is believed to be produced by the flow of liquid iron in its core.
And you end up thinking how lucky we are of being the inhabitants of this little third-rate crappy rock in theoutkirts of the galaxy :0)

magnetic poles
There seems to be a persistent idea that reversal of the magnetic poles causes physical perturbations. Quakes, tidal waves and such.
Now I know that the quotes are from a work of fiction, so I am not critical of that part.
It is just that I have seen this idea in many places, and I'm wondering where it comes from. Is there some good reason that escapes me, or is it that some people don't know the difference between magnetic poles and rotational (geographic) poles?
I like the story idea though. There was another story called "The Gentle Earth" of something like that. The invading aliens were defeated not by heroic human defenders, but by bad weather. Snow, tornadoes, things like that.

Happy 4th of July! :-)
That's a web-comic by Fred Osmond, called 'Earthward-Ho'. For any UFO buff it's really worth checking out.

Goodness Gracious Green Balls of Fire!!
Regarding that greenish fireball sighting over Los Angeles, it is interesting to note that Greg Bishop saw a similar green fireball on June 14th. He wrote about it here.

The Domain logo
Just been reading this page which explains the symbol of The Domain.
Don't know about you lot, but that symbol looks uncannily like the Star Fleet comms badges that Captain Kirk et al wore in the original Star Trek series.
Do you reckon they have badges on their costumes too just like it? If so, I think I would just burst out laughing if I saw one! Still, I suppose they would blend in well with other Trekkers at a Star Trek convention!

LOL
If instead of 'The Dominion', they would have chosen to call themselves 'The Borg', that would have increased the sales of this book 10-fold ;-)

RPJ, I know you're joking but...

Good joke, RPJ.
But to be accurate, the alien didn't choose the word 'domain' -- the woman receiving the alien's thoughts chose it. As she says in the excerpt at Amazon US:
"Even though there were no "words" spoken, or signs made, the intention of the thoughts were unmistakable to me. I realized later that, although I received the thought, I did not necessarily interpret it's meaning exactly."
and from the transcript (with my bold)...
QUESTION - "What planet are you from?"
ANSWER - THE HOME / BIRTHPLACE WORLD OF THE DOMAIN
Since I am not an astronomer, I have no way of thinking in terms of stars, galaxies, constellations and directions in space. The impression I received was of a planet in the center of a huge cluster of galaxies that is to her like "home", or "birthplace". The word "domain" is the closest word I can think of to describe her concept, images and thoughts about where she is from. It could as easily be called the "territory" or the "realm". However, I am sure that it was not just a planet or solar system or a cluster of stars, but an enormous number of galaxies!
