Telephone Telepathy
Posted by daydreamer at 22:40, 30 Mar 2009Just to show i'm not here just to mix things up and that i'm trying to join in in fair spirit.
I had a thought about telephone telepathy so emailed it off to Rupert (not really expecting a reply as he's naturally busy, though academics can be very friendly when you email them). Obviously its a little arrogant as well to think a personal idea is a good one, so i erred a little before i sent it, but in the end blogging and emailing is fun and too easy.

I don't think this is too uncommon an experience. There are obvious un-mysterious answers, but i dont think i was within ear shot at the time, in fact on a couple of occasions i have been driving in the car.
> Is it at all possible that the brain is acting as a kind of receiver of electromagnetic waves of this frequency? If it is then it's impressive that it can tune into specific frequencies as you would guess that it was receiving across the spectrum.
> It has now been shown that you can use reflections of electromagnetic energy picked up by transmitting devices such as mobile phones to study the 'life signs' of individuals. Under certain circumstances, i.e. when the phone is already ringing, perhaps the brain is picking up and becoming familiar with the 'feel' of the electromagnetic field for each person on the other end of the dialing phone.
>
> Obviously if test subjects are asked who is going to ring before the phone rings then it would disclude this, but it could account for a percentage of public awareness of who's calling, reducing the amount of 'true' telepathy occurring.
I received a very nice email from one of his research staff describing it as interesting and that she would pass it along to Rupert. I feel like i have emailed my Minister of Parliament, like democratic science in action! Anyway my experiences have been whacked onto their database. Very nice people.

Anyway, let us know if he sends you a personal reply.
PS: OK, I gotta ask: did you include your full 'coat of arms' in that letter—i.e. did you mention you were a fellow scientist yourself?? ;-)

I must pick up on people's thoughts before they phone. I've lost count of the number of times I've had the thought to ring someone only to have them say "I was just thinking of ringing you"!
I'm always the one who ends up with the big phone bill, dammit!

Oh, it would be so useful to know in anticipation if the incoming call is from those annoying credit card employees offering YET ANOTHER testicle cancer insurance policy ;-)
