Samurai
Posted by KATYA at 10:16, 20 Feb 2006For many years I have been a fan of Anime, my favourite continue to be
“Cowboy Bebop” and “Berusaiyu no Bara” - “Versailles no Bara”, in Italy called “Lady Oscar”;
my curiosity about the Japanese culture has been a natural consequence.
So I want to dedicate this Blog to the Samurai, charming and unique characters.
Per molti anni sono stata una appassionata di Anime, i cartoni animati giapponesi,
i miei favoriti continuano ad essere “Cowboy Bebop” e “Lady Oscar”;
la mia curiosità verso la cultura Giapponese ne è stata una logica conseguenza.
Così voglio dedicare questo Blog ai Samurai, personaggi affascinanti e unici.

Katya-chan,
I love Cowboy Bebop. Some of my favourites are Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli (of course!), Robotech, Haibane Renmei, FLCL, Voices From A Distant Star, Read or Die, and many others. I'd love to see Samurai Champloo. The Kensin Wandering Samurai anime was great. There's a lot of bad anime out there, so I'm not entirely an Otaku, but I do like the good stuff. I have my children's novel (for adults too!) about a girl named Gretchen Gloomberry and her ghost-cat named Moshi Moshi, and their adventures in a space-time-bending museum featuring exhibits of mythology, folklore, fairy-tales and imagination, owned by a mysterious figure based on Michio Kaku and Hayao Miyazaki (Copyright Rick M. Gned 2003). I'll have a website up pretty soon (or if Greg lets me share the bandwidth). I hope to develop it into a multimedia story, encompassing novel, manga, anime and computer game. I'll keep you updated.
I'm studying Japanese this year, so I'll see where that takes me. I'm also thinking about studying Aikido, at the Fitzroy dojo. It's directly based on the teachings of Morihiro Saito, the only person to be a live-in student of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido. It looks pretty serious, so I'm a bit iffy, but I'll give it a go. Much of Aikido is based on the way of the Samurai, so I'm not sure if I'm up for that kind of discipline! You can read more about Aikido and the history of the dojo I'll be studying at here.
I'm not quite a Japanophile, I'm interested in many other cultures as well (China, Mongolia, India, Peru, Mexico, Native America ...), but there's something magical about a Shinto shrine, anime, and Miso soup. I think so anyway.
Anyways, I need to finish up. My eyesight is getting worse the longer I stare at a computer, and I need a break.
Thanks for the links!
Rick

- Yes also am not an unconditional fan, because I am very critical.

- This seems interesting.

- Some years ago I have attended lessons of Buto Dance. It is has been a fine experience: even if it is a modern dance it is full of Japanese tradition and the approach to the dance, the performance, the relationship with the teacher is very emotive and hypnotic. I think that is important to approach different culture remembering our inevitable differences to learn something of new from them but also to give something of us to them.
Anyways, I need to finish up.
