we need to remove the focus from aspiring towards ridding ourselves of the irrational, and instead move the focus towards understanding how this irrationality operates
There's been a welcome shift lately towards skeptics acknowledging their shadow.
I don't believe in belief!

Last Saturday I was with little money, so I bought me a bottle of cheap (but good) red wine, and decided to spend the evening watching a movie from my DVD collection.
Guess what movie I watched ;)

Don't tell me, you went to the Compossible Library, where every book (even those that never were)/movie/DVD/holocube/whichever is, and took out the film that the following is based on

This weekend I'm introducing my youngest daughter to "Bladerunner". She hasn't seen it yet, and it's my favorite movie. She's 13 and it's about time I broke her from her anime shell/existence into some more interesting SciFi, especially ones that pose such interesting questions.

Maybe your daughter should teach YOU a thing or two about Neon Genesis Evangelion ;)
And let's not forget Akira!

I've seen both, and some others.
Her problem is she's been steadfast in ONLY watching anime, so I've put the law down that she begins watching other medium(s) with me, or she won't be watching anything as I'll password-lock her laptop.

You are graduate of the same Parenting Academy my own dad went to, I gather :P
But you're right in encouraging her to expand her horizons. I'm sure she'll love Bladerunner; you'll have a wonderful chance to show her the influences of many Animes she's watched :)

I run my house as a benevolent dictatorship. :)
As a single parent, and a home schooler to boot, it makes things a bit easier. However, I actually have very few rules, but the ones I do have are ironclad. She's 13 going on 31, so sometimes it's like herding cats around here, but it's also nice to be able to have a good relationship with her as she grows up.

The Director's Cut. It's the one I own, although a couple others are, I believe, available through NetFlix.
