Drilling Under the Sphinx
Posted by Greg at 07:05, 19 Oct 2009A new video on YouTube features Dr Zahi Hawass and Dr Mark Lehner discussing the recent drilling under the Great Sphinx at Giza on-site during the project. The testing was ostensibly done to establish whether the monument is at risk from the rising water table, though much of this video seems aimed at debunking the 'New Age' claims that there is a secret chamber beneath the Sphinx's paw.
Interesting that Mark Lehner mentions these 'New Age' claims, and that he started work at the Great Sphinx with Zahi in 1978, without mentioning that he began his work there looking for those exact chambers through his association with the Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE). As for Zahi, the possibility of 'secret chambers' seems to depend mostly on whether he gets the credit for discovering them...

Priests Chant:
All hail Hawass - man-god of Egypt’s antiquities!
Bow before his discoveries, kneel before his pyramids!
Worshipers Refrain:
Nothing comes out of Egypt without his holy cartouche engraved upon its head!
Hawass is Egypt! Egypt is Hawass!

I Love it!!
"..cast thou the Holy Circle of Starry Light..."
Wouldn't that just put it back in line with the river that flowed around it thousands of year's ago?
Seems like they should be building observation decks rather than drilling.
I like Zahi. he may be a media hound but all that publicity may not be a bad thing for Egypt. Also, he is good at it, so why not? Maybe theres a bit of jealousy here at the grail? :)

Jealousy? No... not even a good case of envy. It's more dangerous than any of that... it's a (GASP!) personal opinion.

There is no bad press.
"..cast thou the Holy Circle of Starry Light..."
Anyone who spends the majority of their time accumulating power and protecting their ego is a bane to the scientific community and their fellow scientists.
That is great news that he has to retire this year. Perhaps some of the concealed secrets of the Giza plateau will leak to the public before his successor (and his controllers) can consolidate their power.
Good riddance (to bad rubbish!).

I just love an "expert" whose opinion changes due to being paid! I've always thought that about court "experts" also.
