The Road to the Heavens
Posted by Greg at 03:58, 05 Dec 2012I love this image by astrophotographer Ben Canales, as it really illustrates how the Milky Way was sometimes seen by ancient people as the road (or waterway) to the stars (much like this image). Like catching a rainbow, you almost feel that if you walked far enough in that direction you could find the junction from where you could ascend to the heavens.

"Once there was an old wolf who was about to die. His family was very sad and mourned day and night, but the old wolf told them not to be sad. For one day they would follow him to the heavens and join him again. As the old wolf left for the spirit world, he ascended into the heavens and every footprint he left behind became a star. And from that day on, all wolves who would die followed the path of the Great Leader, leaving a star behind for every step they took up into the heavens. This is how the Milky Way was formed."

Great photo, thought I should share a story :)
...I forgot how I got here but everyone seems to be heading off in that direction. I hope someone brought food. I have a feeling this is going to be a long journey................
