Super 8 Movie

Well this looks like fun. J.J. Abrams doffs his hat to vintage Steven Spielberg (with Spielberg’s assistance) with Super 8:

Looks like J.J. has ramped up the scary a bit more than Spielberg used to though (schooled in the comments by RPJ)…unless it’s a ruse and the ‘alien’ (if that’s what it is) is actually cute and cuddly a la E.T.

That’s hardly fair. Spielberg is single-handedly responsible for an entire generation feeling dread every-time they took a swim in the sea.

Not to mention making us all suspicious of our TV sets 😉

Good point. I was referring (without actually saying it, unfortunately), to his “kid-based” movies, such as E.T. and Goonies (producer).

Count me in on the Jaws frights, my mum took me to that when I was like 6 or 7. Serious nightmares that evening!

I remember being scared to go to the bathroom after seeing “The Legend of Bogey Creek”. I was only 9 years old and our bathroom was on the second floor, but it still had a screened in window, just like in the movie.

        1. The Neanderthal Man & The Invisible Monster
Try walking alone at night at that age after watching The Neanderthal Man _and_ Forbidden Planet — if the neanderthal man didn’t get you, the invisible monster would.

      2. Duh dum… Duh dum… Duh dum duh dum duh dum
You know a thriller or a horror flick works when the something as simple as swimming in an in-ground pool’s deepend at night brings visions of a shark coming from it’s 8ft depths to swallow you whole, even with the pool light on. So many peaceful skinny dipping endeavors ruined, so many lives tarnished.
