What set the Dark Knight trilogy apart from previous super-hero films, was the unprecedented level of realism Christopher Nolan approached the subject from, thus propelling the genre to a whole new level of maturity —which helped DC make amends for subjecting Batman fans to cheesy plots & nippled costumes in the godawful Shchumacher era of the 1990’s.
That’s why I can’t wait to see how Nolan will bring back that same type of realism, when dealing with one of the most cliched themes in Science Fiction cinema: Interstellar space travel; which in the case of his upcoming film, represents Humanity’s last hope to avoid extinction & find another viable home, after we made our planet unsuitable for life.
I’m pretty sure both the topic & the film itself, will generate plenty of interesting discussion here at the Grail once it’s released. But in the meantime, here’s a little taste of what lies ahead:
Interstellar premieres this November.
