Yeah, I know Colbert used the gag first on his show, but I still felt the need to draw it…
As a kid I used to love watching The Muppets Show on TV. I even had a Kermit marionette that I used to play with. I loved the dynamic of Kermit and Miss Piggy, and it’s only after I grew up that I realized how avant-garde and progressive was the character Jim Henson created: a strong woman who wants to give free reign on her femininity, but that will suffer NO fools who stand on her way—HI-YAAA!
It may seem like I’m gone too far with this one, but IMHO we risk the normalization of letting politicians insult and demean anyone who dare question them at our own peril. Even more so when women are the ones taking the brunt of the insults—is THIS the world MAGA fans really want their daughters to grow up in?
Journalism is one tool we have to keep the powerful in check. Another tool is satire.
