Solemn celebration, first pilgrimage to Jerusalem’s sanctuary.
It starts after five days after Yom Kippur (= Day of the expiation) and goes on seven days.
Sukkot remembers the 40 years that the Jewish people spent in the desert after the liberation from the slavery, but it is also a feast connected to the Summer harvest that marks the passage to the Autumn. It is prescribed to must build houses with materials of vegetable origin: the Sukkot. The seventh day (Simhàt Torah, Joy of the Torah) is the day of the celebration for the closing and the reopening of the annual cycle of the Torah’s reading, with unbridled dances and chants in every sinagogues of the country.

Festa solenne, primo pellegrinaggio al santuario di Gerusalemme.
Dura sette giorni e si apre cinque giorni dopo lo Yom Kippur (= Giorno dell'espiazione).
Succot ricorda i 40 anni passati dagli ebrei nel deserto dopo la liberazione della schiavitù, ma è anche una festa legata al raccolto estivo che segna il passaggio all’autunno. E’ prescritto che si debbano costruire abitazioni di fortuna con materiali di origine vegetale: le Succot, appunto. Il settimo giorno (Simhàt Torah, Gioia della Torah) si festeggiano anche la chiusura e la riapertura del ciclo annuale di lettura della Torah, con danze e canti sfrenati in ogni sinagoga del Paese.
