OCTOBER 11: SARASVATI PUJA AND CHONG YANG JIE THE NIGHT OF DOUBLE 9

- SARASVATI PUJA
Celebration in honour of Sarasvati, inner feast of the Navaratri: feast dedicated to the Divine Mother in her 3 forms Durga, Lakshimi, Sarasvati.
Sarasvati is considered the Mother of Veda, so the divinity of the sanscrit alphabet as Holy Word.
In the Vedic time she was the personification of the homonymous river and the poets sang the pureness of its water, so Sarasvati become the Goddes of the Arts and the Poetry.
Figured with the lotus and the Vina while rides a swan or a peacock; in the early Veda she is Indra’s wife, in classic age takes the trait of Brama’s wife.
For the buddhist she is the bride of Manjushri that presides to the teaching of the Divine Word and she is figured with 3 eyes a holy book and a white lotus.
In Tibet she is revered in a form with 3 faces, 6 red arms and warlike look.

- CHONG YANG JIE THE NIGHT OF DOUBLE 9
Taoist feast of the double Yang, it falls the ninth day of the ninth month, in the harvest-season.
In the ancient time the feast had the meaning of “longevity”.
Often the chinese celebrates this day with walks in mountain picking up chrysanthemums, planting little plants and siping wine of chrysanthemum.
In the 1989, the China fixed that this feast were the feast dedicated to the elderies, too.
So in this day the elderies are accompanied from their family to admire the chrysanthemums and to ascend the hills, bringing some little sacks of cornel and eating “Flowery Sweet”.
In chinese language the word “sweet” have the same pronunciation of “high”, with sense of “to rise” and “to flourish”. The people that lives in plain, without hills, eats the “Flowery Sweet” with the sense “to rise to high”.
This Wang Wei’s poem describes the feeling of Chong Yang Jie:
“Alone far from home,
increase the nostalgia
but I know that when my brother ascends the hill
and have the cornel,
feel the absence of a person”.

SARASVATI PUJA
Celebrazione in onore di Sarasvati, festività interna al Navaratri: festa in onore della Madre Divina nelle sue tre forme Durga, Lakshimi, Sarasvati.
Sarasvati è considerata la madre dei Veda, quindi divinità dell’alfabeto sanscrito come Parola Sacra.
Nel periodo vedico era la personificazione del fiume omonimo ed i poeti cantarono la purezza delle sue acque, così Sarasvati divenne la Dea delle Arti e della Poesia.
Raffigurata con il loto ed il Vina mentre cavalca un cigno o un pavone; nei primi Veda è considerata la moglie di Indra, soltanto in epoca classica acquista il carattere di moglie di Brama. Per i buddisti è la sposa di Manjushri che presiede all’insegnamento della Parola Divina è rappresentata con 3 occhi un testo sacro e ed un loto bianco.
In Tibet è venerata in una forma con 3 facce, 6 braccia di colore rosso ed aspetto bellicoso.

CHONG YANG JIE THE NIGHT OF DOUBLE 9
Festa taoista del doppio Yang, cade nel nono giorno del nono mese, durante la stagione del raccolto. Nei tempi antichi la festa aveva il significato di “longevità”.
Spesso i cinesi celebrano questo giorno con passeggiate in montagna raccogliendo crisantemi, piantando little piantine, and sorseggiando vino di crisantemo.
Nel 1989, la Cina stabilì che questa fosse anche la festa dedicata agli anziani, così in questo giorno si accompagnano gli anziani della famiglia ad ammirare i crisantemi ed a risalire le colline, indossando dei sacchettini di corniola e mangiando “Dolci Fioriti”.
In cinese il termine “dolce” ha la stessa pronuncia di “alto”, col senso di “innalzarsi” e “prosperare”. I residenti delle pianure, senza colline, consumano i dolci fioriti col senso di “salire in alto”.
Questa poesia di Wang Wei descrive il sentimento che caratterizza il Chong Yang Jie:
“Solo lontano da casa,
per la festa aumenta la nostalgia
ma so che quando mio fratello sale il colle
e porta la corniola,
sente la mancanza di una persona”.
