Pyramids of Giza in a [Fake] Winter Wonderland

Wow! Pyramids have been found in Antarctica... hang on a second, this is really the Giza Plateau! For the first time in 112 years, snow has fallen across Egypt. Perhaps now we'll get to find out what lies beyond Gantenbrink's Door in the Great Pyramid -- I distinctly remember Zahi Hawass saying we'll get a look "when hell freezes over."#

Photo via the Facebook page Egypt Cradle of civilization.

# Extra credit to those who get the pun.

Update: Looks like this photo is a photoshopped version of this image (in fact, there are a whole bunch of 'shopped images doing the rounds today). Which is a shame, because it did actually snow in Cairo...couldn't someone just go and take an actual photo?

Zahi's laughing into his cornflakes this morning.

I didn't get sucked in by this photo of the Sphinx (it's a miniature from a theme park in Japan). However, I did see a photo of the snow falling in Cairo with the pyramids a hazy grey-white in the distance; but that photo has completely disappeared from the intarwebz. So probably fake as well. Unless it's the only real photo taken of snow-covered pyramids and the photographer is making sure they hit pay day.

Is anything real on the intarwebz? Am I real?!

PS Hell = Giza necropolis, the Egyptian Underworld. Meh.

The first one in this gallery?

There's also this, which apparently shows snow around a pyramid.

That's the one! I'm surprised more photos haven't surfaced. There would have been enough snowfall to make a pyramidal lamington.
