Orbs and Angel Hair

I had planned to add a complete essay yesterday, on the 87th anniversary of the ‘Miracle of Fatima’. However, my research has been growing exponentially and so I’ve decided to post it as a 2-part essay. The first part of “Tripped on Angel Hair” was uploaded just in time to keep it on the anniversary date, stay tuned for the second part. This first part of the essay analyses a particular part of the Fatima miracle, the raining of so-called ‘angel hair’. The second will change tack a little, but you’ll have to wait for that.

  1. “Miracle of Fatima” author offers no proof for “Angel Hair”
I have read many articles and booklets about Fatima and nowhere do I find any mention about “Angel Hair” falling from the sky. Articles that appeared in the secular newspapers never mention anything like it. I notice the author does note footnote where his information is from. If he would post the eyewitness testimony that talked about “Angel Hair” I would appreciate it.

He talks about christians embellishing facts to promote their agenda, what about other people embellishing the facts to promote their agenda?

I get the impression that the author believes the people mistook a UFO for the sun. I find this unbelievable since non-christian scientists were observers and offered no evidence to believing that it wasn’t the sun that danced. Also, people 18 kilometers away also observed the event from a different direction. Wouldn’t people notice two sunlight heat sources in the sky?

I you want to read the quotes from the newspapers read “The Whole Truth About Fatima, Volume II, introduction, pages 5-10 (English editon) 2) O Seculo of October 15, 1917. 3) Article of October 29, 1917. 4) “Ilustra‡ao portuguesa,” October 29, 1917. 5) We find the photographic reproduction of those three articles in “Fatima 50” of October 13, 1967, pages 6-10; 14-15. 6) “Novos Documentos de Fatima,” Loyola editions, Sao Paulo, 1984, pages 60-63. 1. Footnotes
      Hi Richard,

Thanks for your input, I look forward to more seeing as you have obviously studied the case of Fatima in detail – and I’ve always enjoyed your thoughtful posts.

Firstly, I may not be as conversant with the Fatima testimony as you are, so feel free to correct me. Most of the ‘secular newspaper’ reports seem to focus more on the October ‘miracle of the sun’ than the previous months. However, I did look further afield than the oft-repeated lines of Vallee regarding the angel hair. For instance:

Witnesses at the Cova described what they saw:

“During the time of the apparition the majority of the pilgrims had enjoyed a marvelous spectacle. They saw falling from Heaven a shower of white petals, or round, shining snowflakes which slowly descended and disappeared as they approached the ground. It was an unheard of phenomenon, which the witnesses had difficulty describing. Some described them as stars, and others as a rain of white roses which vanished as they approached the ground.”

This page leaves it a little unclear whose testimony is being referenced, although looking through the rest of the page it appears to be based on direct testimony.

Firstly – whether it was the Sun or not doesn’t really affect my hypothesis, as luminous globes had been seen on previous occasions. For example:

Reverand [sic] General Vicar of Leiria, who was one of the witnesses the lady came in an “aeroplane of light,” an “immense globe, flying westwards, at moderate speed.

Here is the testimony of Monsignor João Quaresma:

With great astonishment I saw, clearly and distinctly, a luminous globe, which moved from the east to the west, gliding slowly and majestically through space. My friend also looked, and had the good fortune to enjoy the same unexpected and delightful vision. Suddenly the globe, with its extraordinary light, disappeared.

Secondly, it’s still unclear whether the crowd actually saw the Sun. It had been raining, and clouds had covered the Sun until that point. Note too the ‘extraordinary light’ of the luminous globe mentioned above. Here is the famous testimony of Dr. Almeida Garrett PhD, of Coimbra University:

The sun, a few moments before, had broken through the thick layer of clouds which hid it, and shone clearly and intensely. I veered to the magnet which seemed to be drawing all eyes, and saw it as a disc with a clean-cut rim, luminous and shining, but which did not hurt the eyes.

Did the clouds separate, or did something luminous descend beneath the clouds? Dr Garrett again:

The clouds passed from west to east and did not obscure the light of the sun, giving the impression of passing behind it, though sometimes these flecks of white took on tones of pink or diaphanous blue as they passed before the sun.

That sounds a lot like something sitting on the cloud line to me (which also would agree with the rainbow of colours projecting everywhere, as a light source within the clouds would refract the spectrum). See also the testimony of Fr. Manuel Pereira da Silva:

The sun appeared with its circumference well defined. It came down as if to the height of the clouds and began to whirl giddily upon itself like a captive ball of fire.

On the testimony of others removed from the scene:

I looked fixedly at the sun, which seemed pale and did not hurt the eyes. Looking like a ball of snow revolving on itself, it suddenly seemed to come down in a zigzag, menacing the earth.

Obviously the Sun didn’t all of a sudden move into the stratosphere of the Earth.

While I would suggest it may have been a UFO, I would qualify that I’m not saying a spaceship came down. I would only go so far as to say a ‘luminous orb’…I’ll talk more about this in the second part.

      Peace and Respect

      Greg

        1. There is Richard and there is Richard
Just so that there is no confusion about identities, I am not the Richard that posted about this subject.

I never post as Anonymous and do not sign at the end of a post so that should allow people to distinguish posts made between the two.

          Interesting subject btw.

          1. Ah…
Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up Richard. Thought I was talking to you, apologies to the second Richard for the confusion.

I’ve read this in a number of accounts. See this for instance:

While the seers were being held on August 13, Our Lady still came to the Cova da Iria and manifested Her presence to the large crowd. One faithful woman described the scene:

“The clap of thunder was more or less similar to that of the preceding time. Some say that it came from the road, others from the holm-oak …. It seemed to me that it came from very far. Everyone kept quiet, frightened ….”

I have various accounts of this, the above I found at the link you posted to me (www.fatima.org):

          Hope this is of assistance.

  2. More articles on “angel hair”
Dear Greg, If I’m remembering correctly, Ellie Crystal’s website had a few articles (with photos) about “angel hair” and one (article) relating an incident where it was manifesting inside her apartment. I’ll go check it out and give everyone the link to it. OK, here is a search page for all references to “angel hair” on Crystalinks Metaphysical and Science website. See here. Hope this helps.
